Was Currie fired for trying to get us a good coach?

Good grief....

Do you know where David Cutcliffe went to school?

I bet you used to whine about Doug Dickey’s FL connection all the time too.

What? Wtf does David cutcliffe have to do with John Currie being terrible at his job!? And FWIW ass cutcliffe was never a head coach at Tennessee and yes I know he went to Bama.

Yea.... Good grief is right

Lot of conspiracy theories based on questionable info.

The very fact that Schiano's name was never even mentioned before the near-signing shows that no one here knows anything.

Until we have a coach hired, people need to find a hobby. It's like Alex Jones' Info Wars in here

Think about it, he rolls out with Schiano and everyone in the school seemed ok with it til the fans reacted. He then goes after Gundy and what if this is where Phil sabotaged it. He then toyed with the names given to him but instead went for Brohm.?Again the school shuts him down. Then the talk doeren and Morris and he instead goes for Leach. The school puts the final shut down on him and bring in Phil to get the cheap hire to keep costs low to maximize profits

Just my theory after the crap names Phil was talking to and how no decent names were even mentioned as serious candidates

He was talking and offering some big names...I wouldn't doubt it.

The fact that Schiano was his first choice should tell you Currie was not interested in bringing in the type of coach the fans expected. Everything after Schiano was just hurky jerk motions as Currie tried to save his job and please his puppet master at the same time.

Schiano wasn't the first choice....Mullen was.

Definitely trying to save his job, what is wrong with that? It's certainly good motivation.

There was nothing wrong with it; it was actually his job to do so. And if he had shown that he was trying to get a top quality coach from the beginning then we might have a good HC right now and Currie would still be the AD.

This post is ridiculous. Schiano should have never been anybody’s first choice as a football coach alone. We were in a great position to hire a very good coach and picking an average coach with a losing record cannot be the best he can do. Phil Fulmer did not sabotage a hire. That’s garbage. He wants the best for Tennessee ultimately more than almost anyone. He was asked to speak to some coaches and he did. If Phil steered away from someone, it would be because they are a scrub as a coach and was protecting Tennessee, not for personal gain.

I really believe nobody wanted to work for Currie from the beginning. Even my 3 year old daughter saw his press conference and said: “Oh, he’s mean.” Lots of reports that he struggled to build relationships with coaches at K-State and with people here. If you can’t build trust or seem distrustful or sneaky, you can’t attract great coaches and leaders. Phil is the right person now but the pool of candidates is small after the Currie mess. He will bring us the best we can get now.

Cutcliffe graduated from Bama, but never played for Bama. Plus Cutcliffe proved his loyalty by his 20 plus years of service.

Except that none of the guys Currie talked to were that great. Gundy was OK. And don't believe for one second that we offered to "double Gundys salary". That's a pile of bologna.

Currie was fired because he's an idiot and his coaching search began and ended with Schiano.

We've had some weak and inept AD's over the years with Hamilton, Hart, and Currie. Fulmer being let go in '08 and Kiffin leaving after one year were huge. We desperately need a coach who is hungry, can bring talent in, and can develop them once they're here. It's just unfortunate that we're having to roll the dice with a coordinator.

At this point Fulmer better pull in Pruitt or Tucker. If he comes with Steele as anything but aDC then he needs to end up with the same fate as Currie.

Now if he misses on Pruitt or Tucker and can bring in brohm or another decent coach then great, but he better not miss on them and try to aim lower.

Currie was woefully unprepared or incompetent to be the UT AD after having fired CBJ and then rolling out Schiano as if that shot through the head duck would actually fly. The only clown in the whole state of Tennessee that thought that was a good idea was Currie. His whole reaction to the ensuing tsunami that occurred after the Schiano debacle further cemented he had no business being AD at UT. Flying on a friends private plane to the west coast to interview or be interviewed while on the payroll for UTAD and not one of his employers knew what he was doing or why was the final nail in his professional coffin IMO.

Currie is out in California talking to Mike Leach on a Thursday, called back to TN in
the process and then gets "suspended". The dumpster fire of a search gets gassed
some more. Currie may have been over his head, he was trying but fell short. Maybe
some undermining of the search process. Who knows, but maybe Fulmer can get a good hire.

All the big hitters at UT thought Schiano was the right guy, including Manning and possibly Fulmer.

Getting a good HC is obviously not a prerequisite for the job...so he was probably fired for not adequately selling us on the pile he was shoveling us.

I absolutely believe they decided to go cheap again, who in their right minds turns down 7 to 10 million a year?
