Think about it, he rolls out with Schiano and everyone in the school seemed ok with it til the fans reacted. He then goes after Gundy and what if this is where Phil sabotaged it. He then toyed with the names given to him but instead went for Brohm.?Again the school shuts him down. Then the talk doeren and Morris and he instead goes for Leach. The school puts the final shut down on him and bring in Phil to get the cheap hire to keep costs low to maximize profits

Just my theory after the crap names Phil was talking to and how no decent names were even mentioned as serious candidates

Looks like Currie was a scapegoat termination based on recent events. Something to keep the fans distracted long enough to bag a bargain bin coach.

I thought that from the very beginning.

Everyone wanted to believe Fulmer was incapable of being an AD shill because he was orange to his core.

Phil didn't sabotage anything. he got fired for multiple reasons - leach was never on the table just his buddy basically...gundy used currie... the last big straw came when he used a buddy's Kansas State plane (his past employer) to go off the grid and fly out west. no one at UT knew where he was or what he was doing. not smart

Fulmer I think it going a smarter route and finding good up and coming coaching prospects from our biggest competitors in the SEC and they would recruit like no other in the SEC (something those other coaches last week probably would struggle with)

The fact that Schiano was his first choice should tell you Currie was not interested in bringing in the type of coach the fans expected. Everything after Schiano was just hurky jerk motions as Currie tried to save his job and please his puppet master at the same time.

If it was just about Schiano he would have been fired an not allowed to continue searching for a new coach.

Definitely trying to save his job, what is wrong with that? It's certainly good motivation.

Truth probably somewhere in between. I wonder about validity of Gundy dance because we apparently pulled back on financial package for at least Brohm... and how far down the road we actually did get with Brohm. Had to still be a Haslam deal on the KS Booster private jet. Don't think a booster for another school is going to pay approx $20-$25000 for a cross country private jet without Haslam saying forget Bev, get on the plane and go get Leach, and I'll cover it.

Guess we'll find out soon on all this, but Phil could get the hire right with budget, and still lose alot of fans if it's a mid range guy with no previous association with UT. Case studies will be done on this for years.

I'm hoping that something comes out of blue that makes us all go "WOW"...in a good way.

Currie wanted Schiano from the start and made no real effort to find a coach until that blew up in his face. He was a Haslam Guy.

No one expected Gundy to take the job but they called him anyway and he used Tennnessee for another raise.

They tried with Brohm but perhaps the Schiano stuff scared him away or there is truth to UT not wanting to pay his $5 million buyout.

They tried with Morris but he was always interested in TAMU and it seems he even preferred Arky to UT.

Who else is out there that would come here? Petersen was interviewed but why would he leave Washington?

Everyone wants Kiffin back but a lot of people, especially some boosters, are still upset about how he left UT.

Then there is Leach and a MOU he worked out with Currie. Perhaps Fulmer doesn’t think they can work together or that he is not worth the money. Maybe Fulmer thinks hiring a strong DC, like Kirby Smart, will work instead of paying huge money to top coach, like Jimbo.

I don’t know what is going on in the AD’s office but that needs to be fixed before Tennessee will get a top coach.

At this point, maybe they take a chance with Pruitt. Maybe his competitiveness will rub off on the team. Maybe he will instill some discipline and be honest with these kids.

If anything, Pruitt will recruit well and maybe he builds a solid staff. Maybe in the meantime, Fulmer can clean up the AD’s office that was wrecked by Hamilton and Hart.

All we can do is trust Fulmer and at least give the new coach a chance. Maybe Pruitt will become a coaching star.

If this doesn’t work, Fulmer needs to step down and UT needs to spend a lot of money and give total control of football operations to an established coach.

More and more everyday it looks like Currie was the scapegoat. Sadly I'm believe Phil only wants UT to be successful if he's involved in that success. He's still salty about 08'.

Currie's face turn and attempt to hire a very good coach instead of doing the bidding of the HOH is definitely what cost him his job and sent us on a downward spiral that results in us somehow settling for a coordinator instead of a sitting highly successful coach.

Good Lord. Fulmer interviewed who he was instructed to by Currie, it was his job. The university wants a less desirable coach? Really?! Hopefully people like you that create or buy in to all these silly conspiracy theories will learn how the world operates after you get out of HS.

You don't put a bammer in as head coach if you're orange to the core. Just saying, Currie was fired because he was terrible at his one job. Period. Period.

Yep Currie made his bed when he landed on Schiano. He was dead man walking after that fiasco. Everyone knew it and he was lucky any coaches even took his calls. Then he just started offering every coach he spoke with and the public rejection just kept compounding the problem.

The names we’ve heard Fulmer is talking to may seem underwhelming but I trust he is thinking about football first with a strong emphasis on recruiting. This isn’t about winning the press conference. I don’t think he is worried about how inexpensive the HC is.

As for Leach... hey I would have liked seeing what he could do but ultimately I don’t think he would have been a good fit. For one, he is sompass happy I think SEC defenses would negate a lot of his brilliance. Also, his personality, as entertaining as it in in press conferences, probably wouldn’t have gelled well with all the off the field crap the TN HC has to do.

Have you noticed NO leaks from the AD since PF has became the AD. Maybe the leaker got a new job. You don't spend 30yrs around the Ath Dept without being in bed with a lot of different ppl from both sides

Good grief....

Do you know where David Cutcliffe went to school?

I bet you used to whine about Doug Dickey’s FL connection all the time too.

Conjecture on all of our parts. That being said, I listened to an interview this morning with a talking head at ESPN who said that Fulmer accompanied Currie to try and convince Doeren to take the job. It was mentioned that Fulmer was approached by Currie for his assistance. Then when Currie did his west coast trip and was asked to return......Fulmer was then brought in to take over.

Certain stories were leaked about the search and most have never been validated. The Chancellor pulled the plug on Currie. Currie failed because he listened to little jimmie and tried to hire an unlikeable individual when the fan base still thought a "name" coach would be brought in.

My first choice was Mullen and Currie most likely never even considered him because of little jimmie. After that I will always believe that Jeff Brohm will do great things as a head coach. It could have been here at UT but Currie mishandled it. That is what happens when have not done the proper legwork on the coaches you are attempting to hire.

I just hope that Fulmer does not hire Steele.

It certainly seems that way, doesn't it? Fulmer will hire someone he can control and hope for the best, the same thing he did when he was HC.
Sometimes his hires worked out, but many times were a complete disaster, but the whole world knows now what an incompetent administration Tennessee fans have to deal with:banghead2:
