War On Pot

Ya'll should be happy about this, this move should force congress to do something to take it out of the hands of the DOJ and ever changing administrations. There are 29/30 states with some form of legal MJ so I'm sure there members of congress will start feeling some heat.

It's BS that the AG is given the power to decide what laws they will and will not enforce.

True, but Obama made a career of selective enforcement; there's quite a precedent.

How is a law faithfully executed if you don’t enforce it?

Faithful in this context means "strict", "thorough", and "true to one's word", etc. There is no way the founders meant for it to be interpreted as "blindly".

Allowing the states to govern themselves is the furthest thing we can get from unconstitutional. It's like I'm talking to NWO Marxists or something.

Choosing not to enforce congressionally approved law subverts checks and balances. A president can veto a bill, that is within his power under our system. But if congress overrides the veto that’s the end of it. The executive doesn’t get to say f that.

Only you Mick and Luther would claim victory after being made to look like a fool.

You're like that redneck cousin that knows everything. You are left talking to yourself while everyone else goes and smokes another one saying to each other "what an idiot".

I wasn't mistaken.

No you actually looked it up for him and pasted the clause where it specifically says a president must make sure a law is enforced even if he doesnt agree with it...checkmate

And huff goes on to say that because it says "a" law and not "every" law that you are agreeing with him. Cant make this stuff up. Thats Bill Clinton level semantics... i learned decades ago from a lady i loved then that you simply cannot have a rational conversation with an irrational person.

Congress made the law, so Congress must change it. That's how our system works.

Except when a judge somewhere decides he has more power that either of the elected branches. Apparently judges appointed for life and without the need to appease anyone to stay in office feel like they hold a virtual dictatorship in their hands.

Dude, I smoked all the time and then I would go visit my sister for a week and I don't even notice that I'm not using. Try that with any other drug. Try that with coffee or alcohol.

1 in 10 would be a higher addiction rate than cocaine, btw. Only like 6% of people who have ever used are currently addicted (IIRC the data).

So if you didn't notice a difference, why were you wasting your money in the first place?

When Obama assumed office, the unemployment rate was still rising sharply. It topped out at 10% in October of 2009, hovering just below that level for the next year, before beginning a steady decline at the end of 2010 that persisted into 2016, breaking through the 5% mark at the beginning of 2016.

Yeah, except for the big number of people who could work but no longer even tried to be a part of the job market not counting as unemployed - and, of course, counting the underemployed and part timers. Gotta love the Fiction Office or Office of Offal Propaganda turning out government statistics.

So what's Session's angle here? Moral objection? Strict enforcement of the law?

To me, this seems like a states right issue. Much like other moral stances (abortion, prostitution, death penalty) this should be left up to the state to decide.

Out of all the vices and imaginary crimes to throw people in jail for, pot seems like it should be lowest on that list.
Great question. The GOP needs younger voters. This ain't gonna help. It's idiotic.

so still not UNconstitutional. Just because something isn't in the Constitution doesn't mean they can't do it. "All laws and whatnot". and yay for the Supreme Court giving precedent.

The 10th amendment

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Narcotic regulation or probition is not a power delegated to the federal govt in the Constitution regardless of what the Supreme Court says.

not disagreeing. should we ban it all? or do we draw a line somewhere?
If everything were legal, that would require recognizing and (enforcing?) personal responsibility. We can't have that because tear filled liberals have to save the world. If you shoot legalized heroine and become a heroine addict, people that don't would have to save your life. If personal responsibility were (enforced), that heroine addict would know what he/she was getting into and would suffer the consequences.

This is a very odd line of defense. Because Jackson refused to allow people to aid the Cherokee people and fight for their sovereignty, you think it should compel Sessions to not enforce federal law on marijuana?

The issue we're talking about is Sessions permitting his department to uphold federal law. One that the Supreme Court has upheld. This really only serves as a defense for continuing to refuse to prosecute these crimes if that were the case, and again, it's an odd case to hitch your wagon to.

No, my point was that SCOTUS lacks the ability to enforce any law.

The Democratic Party should immediately make marijuana legalization a portion of their party's goals, but they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
