War in Ukraine

As a related aside, given what we have seen in Ukraine over the last couple of years, what do people think of Russia's nuclear capabilities at this point? Too broken down and aged to be a threat if it really came to that?

Where is the context from which is this coming from? Their medium range seems very effective and their really is no defense to the weapons they have let alone ones coming from closer range subs. If anything their short to medium capabilities have been battle tested.

No, they still have the most nuclear firepower in the world

Ukraine complied with our demands. They put their security in our hands. Gave up billions in missiles and long range bombers, and a nuclear deterrent that has proven the only guarantee of Russia not invading them.

We on the other hand, did not live up to the agreement.

I have stated this many times, the treaty we signed was to not infringe on their sovereignty, it wasn't an agreement to defend their sovereignty. Russia broke the agreement, not the USA.

Significant flips ...

From the article:

LONDON — Most Ukrainians now favor ending the war with Russia through negotiations, as support for fighting until victory has dropped sharply since the early days of the conflict.

More than three years into the war, Ukrainians’ support for continuing to fight until victory has hit a new low. In Gallup’s most recent poll of Ukraine — conducted in early July — 69% say they favor a negotiated end to the war as soon as possible, compared with 24% who support continuing to fight until victory.

This marks a nearly complete reversal from public opinion in 2022, when 73% favored Ukraine fighting until victory and 22% preferred that Ukraine seek a negotiated end as soon as possible.

If they've really had a million killed or injured its tough to see any way out for Putin.

The "out" is the same as it was in 2022, it would seem if the objective is to demilitarize or similar, that can be accomplished in two ways: 1.) the party agreeing to some terms that reasonable accomplishes that or 2.) destroy it all and turn it into a parking lot.

The problem is not an easy one which is what I said in 2022, the best case after the initial failure for Russia was Poland annexing Western Ukraine but that doesn't appear to be a likely outcome as nobody wants Western Ukraine. The neocons set this one pretty well, sacrifice the Ukraine with limited skin in the game. The Ukraine needs the war to continue as funding will stop without it, and Europeans need the war to continue as they are next - not at war with Russia but with themselves.

The Ukraine is nothing more than a place for the world to take a dump.

It was stupid when you said it in 2022, and it's still stupid now.

The only country "taking a dump in Ukraine" is Russia, who could end the war today by ceasing to wage it; a reality you refuse to acknowledge b cause it negates the entire belief system that you've developed on the subject.

Putin is winning this war. Normally the country that's winning the war has the upper hand in negotiations. They would have to be drastic change for Putin to give up certain demands, which is not going to happen

You're exactly right, but Russia chose to do it and the world has been dealing with it since. The world has given Ukraine billions in aid which hasn't stopped Russia. What do we do going forward? That's the question no one can answer

Ukraine has one of the highest disparities in men to women ratio. I cannot imagine how it will be when this is over. you are looking at hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian men dead. It's going to affect their country for decades

Nope, only in your head, "to the last Ukrainian". Nobody cares, which is why you don't sign up - everyone cares including all the tough internet warriors. 🐔

So he threatens Putin and now Putin has agreed to talk about a path to end the war?

And in some way this is bad?
Lol, Putin has agreed to literally nothing, other then to accepting Trump's invitation to come to America and humiliate him in person rather than to continue to do so via his proxy Steve Witkoff.

And then when Iran finally gets their nukes (won't be long)

Really glad to hear you say this. I was worried they may have nuclear weapons in the near future. Now I realize that’s not possible.

Mutually Assured Destruction has worked since the USSR got the bomb. It will continue to work moving forward.

This is an ignorant view based on a mere few decades as a time frame and falsely assumes everyone involved will act rationally.

Your post in general shows the overall problem with left wing foreign policy. The false belief that the best option is cower, always.
