War in Ukraine

The Senate is onto something here. Unfortunately everyone knows TACO.

“…The sanctions bill is a test of sorts for Trump and whether he truly understands Putin’s mindset. It has garnered support from the majority of U.S. senators and includes harsh provisions aimed at choking off Russia’s last major source of income: its energy exports. The legislation would impose 500 percent tariffs on countries that continue buying Russian oil, gas, uranium and other materials.

It’s questionable whether the 500 percent figure will survive talks between the White House and Capitol Hill. The tariffs would land on major U.S. trading partners in Europe, China and India and wreak havoc on the global economy. Still, whatever version of the bill survives could deal a major blow to Russia.”

so tariffs, including absolutely bonkers ones of 500%, are a good thing now?

Yea lets **** on ourselves to hurt Russia. Jesus

"protection".

Idk why they have it in such a limited area, maybe there is something specific there to protect. when they first started they covered the whole plane, which made some sense, this doesn't make much to me.

I thought protection to until I seen how spread out they were. Wondering from a satélite in space could you identify the aircraft with the tires on it?

thats fair. especially as AI comes in, breaking up the profile will be big. maybe we start seeing painted tops again on planes.

Ukrainian rescue worker finds Wife, Daughter and Baby Grandson Dead after Russian drone strikes home

A Ukrainian rescue worker who rushed to the scene of a Russian drone strike overnight found his wife, daughter and baby grandson all dead in the rubble of their home.

The three relatives — including mom Daryna Shyhyda, a police officer, and her 1-year-old baby — were among five killed in the drone strike in the northern city of Pryluky, which also injured six others, Ukrainian officials said.

From what I’ve read the tires are supposed to help with AI based automatic target recognition algorithms and also the infrared signature for thermal imaging cameras. It’s an attempt to mask the silhouette/profile of the aircraft. To which I immediately thought why not just use camo nets instead? 🤷‍♂️

However in the video the drones appear to be manually guided and visually targeted. I am guessing they might have been in somewhat GPS denied environments as in some of the clips you see EKF in red at the bottom. I inferred that to mean the extended Kalman filter in the navigator had not converged and the drone was flying pure inertial.

I am ignorant, but I was very surprised they were manually guided, and I assume there are reasons why they needed to be. Everybody on the internet is talking about the tires "fooling" whatever computer programs they might imagine an enemy using to find a plane. It seems very unlikely that would work, but I have to think somebody tried it and concluded it was worth doing.

I've been looking forward to somebody telling us what kind of ordnance they had on board. Based on the damage it seems like starting a fire does the most good.

I know TACO too. I put medium Ortega sauce on them when I make them at home. Shells or tortillas with TACO meat, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, sometimes cheese, and the yummy TACO sauce.

Yeah I have heard the same “to fool the ai into thinking it’s something else” but Russia did this before drones were a big thing.
I believe they had to be manual for a few reasons. Maybe the painted planes might of misguided the drone into a false plane. But also they hit some grave yards especially on their awacs. In order to hit the planes they wanted.

Interesting article that got released after spiderweb. Ukraine hacked into Tupolev (russias builder of strategic bombers). Russia, like Nazi Germany, doesn’t have a military force that does anything other than regular maintenance on their aircraft. So Tupolev has their employees on every site where there is a Tupolev bomber. This was essentially the downfall of nazi Germany as they couldn’t get their planes back in air once deemed not air worthy.
So I’m guessing once Ukraine hacked Tupolev they knew where all the bombers were located from employee data. Pretty smart.

You guys should see the movie “Black Bag.” Don’t read a synopsis first; it would undermine the suspense.

I read somewhere that each drone had its own individual operator.

I saw a video going over the drone technology used. Each drone carried a shaped charge similar to an rpg

With Germany (and especially Japan); the loss of aircraft was one factor; but the attrition in trained pilots was really crippling. They could somewhat replace aircraft; but it took years to train the pilots
