I'm not sure about that. One thing you should do is put aside your disdain for Trump a couple of minutes and allow the idea he has a backup plan in his mind. He is a successful businessman and you don't go into negotiations without a backup of some sort.

My guess is there's something in the works on an international scale that Russia has already agreed to in spirit. Today was trying to get Ukraine on board for it, though I will give you it was the worst forum possible.

But no matter what, Zelensky showed his true colors today and I'm not sure he's going to have many people in Congress waving Ukrainian flags on his behest now. Except Never Trump Democrats of course.

I don't think he sabotaged his own mineral deal. I think he really, really wanted Z to sign it. I think before that "press conference" they discussed and it was apparent he wasn't signing it as it was currently written up, at least not now. So the press conference became damage control for Trump to pass the blame on the deal not getting done to get ahead of the news cycle.

It's my opinion Trump has never really liked Z anyway and never trusted Z with all that money and Trump did not care about what happened today. Trump wants someone else to be President of Ukraine that he can work with and Z maybe impeached by tomorrow.

Remember a couple of weeks ago Zelensky said they can't account for a lot of the money we sent them. How much of it went in to his Zelensky's personal bank account (in Switzerland maybe?)

I don’t think so. I think this was a continued conversation from earlier talks where Z was trying to get security guarantees (read: military commitment) from the US as part of any peace deal.

President Trump wasn’t going along, so Zelensky tried to push his luck in the Oval in front of the press, thus Vance’s “try to litigate your case in front of the media” comment.

From there, Zelensky reacted the way my boys did when they were 12, and Trump responded the way I did to my boys.

Zelensky forgot whose house he was in, had to be reminded, and was reminded.

Judging from Zelensky’s recent tweet, he either got the message, or he received valuable counsel from a trusted advisor regarding his political viability.

I think this is a good sign for those of us who want the killing to stop.
