War in Ukraine

I would say no one in their right mind believes Putin would not stop at eastern Ukraine. You think he wants direct conflict with the West? He has tip toed through Ukraine so as not to give the West any justification to get directly into this conflict.

Also, Ukraine lost this war when it started. Any rational reasonable person knew that.

Ukraine seems to be holding their own to date. Russia barely has any territory left in their country and had that epic fail trying to take Kiev. I wouldn't say Russia was winning.

Hell the British had conquered and secured more USA territory at this point (2 years in) in the Revolutionary War and still lost.

Lots of reports coming out that Avdiivka has been surrendered with statements by (new) Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky and comments by A3OB officials. Apparently, it was a disorderly retreat with some soldiers left behind either because they were trapped or unaware of the decision to pull back.

If by holding their own you mean getting their forces slaughtered at an extremely high ratio while slowly losing ground, then yeah, they are holding their own.

NATO has all the clocks, but Russia has all of the time.

Ironically, US politicians keep selling this war as, "we are bleeding Russia dry" but in reality it is actually the West being bled dry.

Ukraine had an adequate fighting force when the war started. The untrained and undisciplined force they have out there now is just wasting western military resources at an extremely high clip while Russia, who has a much higher capacity to replace what they lose/use, is going through far less in comparison.

If they take Avdiivka this is the pivotal moment that Ukraine crumbles and the orcs break out in a sprint to Kiev then right? You know just like Bakhmut? 🤡

315,000 casualties for Russia to take barely get 1/5 of the country and frankly, most of that territory, was already owned by Russia since the start. No way you can argue this is a success.

Success would have been Russia taking Kiev as planned. Most of the major Ukrainian cities are still in Ukraines hand. 2 years into war with USA, British controlled New York and Philadelphia which would be the equivalent of Russia taking Odessa and Kiev.

Now the one item that I am starting to agree with Ras and VolHill on is that we shouldn't pay so much for this war. Who cares if Ukraine falls? USA didn't get involved in this stuff prior to 1940 and we grew up fine as a nation. Ukraine was also part of Russia then. Russia and Putin are sh1theads for sure but how much we should be involved is at question.

I do think Russia bit off more than they can chew and are getting bloodied hard in this fight.

Avdiivka falls. Sad day.

When (perhaps if) the free world decides Ukraine must win this war, it will - of course - win it. We are light years ahead of these Russian morons.

Putin has been exposed as the paper tiger he is. Honestly, a pathetic "second army" if there ever was one. The United States - alone - would (will?) smash the pathetic Russian army to bits should it come to that. I say bring it. MAD stops the nukes, and Putin knows it.

The politics of it all makes me sick, but it is what it is.

Pretty sure Ukraine is basically randomly rotating its Patriot batteries around to F with Russia. Seems our 80s technology is too much for those "modern" Russian aircraft.

Ukraine says it shot down three Russian warplanes

Ukrainian forces shot down two Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers and one Su-35 fighter in the skies over eastern Ukraine, the country's air force chief said.
"On the morning of February 17, 2024, in the eastern (sector), units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed three enemy aircraft at once — two Su-34 fighter-bombers and one Su-35 fighter," Mykola Oleshchuk wrote on Telegram.
Since receiving advanced Western air defense systems, Kyiv has been able to deploy these weapons to pose an increasing threat to Russian aviation in areas near the front lines.
