He is our only RB recruit this year. With Kamara-Hurd combo and Kelly was formidable backup we might not need him this year but I haven't read much about him anywhere. There have been so many articles about some of the other prized recruits. All I got about him was that he roughed up the Gator statue (cool of him).
What do you guys think of his potential ? Can he be an impact in the back field ?

We recently lost another RB that played a little last year (Young). So we don't have a lot of depth if the injury bug hits us. Carlin needs to be ready just in case.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I look at John Kelly (5'9, 210lbs) and Carlin Fils-Aimes (5'11, 185lb) as like a smaller version of what we have now in Hurd and Kamara. Looking at his highlight it looks like Carlin is pretty agile and has potential to be a "quicker" back than Hurd. But given the fact that Hurd is so big then that would be hard to do. At 5'11, probably close to 200lbs by now, Carlin seems like he'll be more of a balanced back.
I was thinking about the drop off after next year when Hurd and Kamara most likely go pro, I don't see how our rushing attack would be near as good with Kelly and Carlin. But with Kelly showing some good play in the orange and white game and his speed (clocked at 22 mph with the helmet gps device) and Carlin looking like a solid 4 star RB recruit and a good head on his shoulders, I think we'll be in good shape.

I think he could be a RS barring injury.... however....

He's my favorite kind of RB. I envision him looking and playing a lot like Kamara. He just needs to bulk up with good weight and work on his top end speed.

If the Vols have the season we all hope for.... they should be in on some of the top shelf '17 RB's..... someone more college ready than Kelly or CFA are coming in.

Op, go to the recruiting forum and click on his page.
Not only will you see his highlights but read the posts of those that study this stuff all day.

I think we already have a good shot at Chandler, he's good looking back.

Probable redshirt.

He will be a good back, but I think a lot of people are underestimating just how good John Kelly is. In a way it reminds me of Jamal Lewis, T. Henry, T Stephens. Not that the current top 3 play like them, but that they are as talented, respectively.

When we add another great back this cycle, the talent level will continue.

It'd be nice to find another JUCO of the same caliber as Kamara. Not that the type of back with his natural ability come along that often, but one can hope.

I don't follow recruiting as close as many but there appear to be 3 really good RB's that UT is pursuing. Two of the 3 would be good and especially if Chandler is one of them.

Definitely Chandler and Akers are my picks.
If you get time, check out Chandlers film.

I did. Runs with power and speed. Didn't seem to wow you with cuts or quickness.

Akers looks to have it all.

Hayden looks like a good RB too and you never really want to turn your back on a legacy.

Injuries or lack thereof will dictate whether he plays this year, you just never know, what fate has in store....

Akers is a freak of nature, no doubt.
But Chandler is the one I feel to be more Vol as of now.

We have not seen enough of Kelly to compare him to those guys yet, but I hope he has earned that by season's end.

When you say we, do you mean you and I or Vol fans in general?

I have seen enough to know that there isn't any significant talent drop-off from #2 back to #3 back.

Akers has great "quicks". Can turn it on at the drop of a hat. Great player with great football instincts. CFA has fantastic straight line speed. Once he gets to the second level you are not catching him.

NSD is a long way away. If we have the season that we should, tennessee should be one of the top destinations for any recruit, but especially for rbs. Proven recent success of developing highly recruited rbs, proven record of playing freshman early and producing impressive numbers in our system, and hopefully we can add putting them in the nfl. Additionally, our line is almost all coming back and should be pretty good, maybe great. Who knows...

... it's going to be a long damn offseason.

Very good prospect. Hard runner. Agile playmaker with good speed.

Will start at some point.
