Wanna Get This Off My Chest Before Kickoff

Since we already have people starting threads asking folks not to "go negative" after having our hats handed to us by Bama, I want to go ahead and let this thought that I've been sitting on out there now.

I do not believe that Derek Dooley will ever win an SEC championship at UTK. Maybe, if the landscape changes significantly his odds may improve but I do not see him ever bettering the top coaches in this conference and, as much as those guys get paid, I do not see any of them leaving any time soon. I think Dooley can, in a couple of years, roll off some 8-9 win seasons, after which time we are going to have to decide whether that sort of result is good enough. Real Vols know the answer now, it's not good enough. The main reason that everyone gives for keeping Dooley is that a 4th coach in five seasons will wreck the program and set it back even further. I personally would rather start over now with someone who can beat the Sabans of this sport on the recruiting trail and on the field than to spend the next four or five years farting around with somebody who might manage to take us from the cellar to the middle of the pack. At this point, nobody can convince me that it can get any worse than it is now. As always, JMO. GBO!

Blah blah blah same crap over and over and over. God's a little busy right now so who do you have in mind that wants to come to Tennessee that is a slam dunk can't miss coach to out recruit Saban and beat them on the field. Believe it or not hall of fame type coaches are not lining up to be Tennessee's next head football coach. If Dooley can't get it done at least we will be on solid ground in 2-3 years when we try to hire the next guy. If we fired Dooley this year or next year we wouldn't be able to get a high school coach to take this job. All the "Dooley will never win" here talk is great for recruiting though.

Don't cite any of the problems DD inherited as a reason to withhold judgment... if you do you've accepted mediocrity or can't see "reality" for what it is.

People who make posts this deserve no better than what UT is right now. Loser attitudes absolutely deserve loser teams.

And people who can't see the facts are Blind .... Come on man... J Majors took years to bring us back after the mess Bill Battle left us in and we were in better shape then than now

This **** about being able to beat saban makes me wanna puke. He isnt God. Go be a bama fan. My Lord.

Wasting your breath VG. These negative idiots are fair weather fans that only love Tennessee when we are winning and apparently havent been paying attention to the status of our program the past 6 years.

I'm sorry, you're correct. Saban should've been fired after his first year at Bama. Manchester United should've fired the most successful coach in the history of sports after two mediocre seasons. Johnny Majors shouldn't have lasted past a year. Bama shouldn't have hired Bear Bryant- he couldn't beat UT his first 5 years in the SEC. Should I continue?

he's never shown that he can

We haven't had the talent to beat the big ones, last year at LSU was much more based our coaching schemes then talent. People are being delusional left and right. What coach would want to come to UT if we canned Dooley this year? You know what top tier coaching candidates would see? A program that kicked out Fulmer, had a 1 year Kiffin romance, and then kicked out a well respected coach that seemed to be improving things. Who would want that? No one. People on this board appear to not have the intelligence or ability to look at the big picture and understand the cylindrical nature of college football. As large as the SEC boat is, it takes time to turn it around after being run aground and mishandled. If a well respected CEO takes over a falling business, the board understands that time is what he needs and not yell for his head the first time something goes wrong. Geez.....

Oh no. Just wait. One of these experts will be here soon to inform you that recruits don't know how to find chat boards on the internet or use them to assess the fanbases of schools they're considering. Seventeen year old kids are more than mature enough to not consider the opinions of fans about programs... don't you know anything?

Yes let's start over. The only question I have is how many coaches turn us down this time?

Depending on Hart's mentality about hiring coaches, hopefully none. If you pay them, they will come. However, MH wanted to hire on the cheap and everyone in the country knew that. No coach is going to come to a place where the expectation is to contend in the SEC on a yearly basis for mid-major money. It just wasn't going to happen. If we go looking for a coach during the hiring season as opposed to 2 weeks before signing day, with the intention of paying comparable money to what other SEC contenders coaches make, I think we can get a qualified candidate.

This OP is the same guy that probably changes jobs every year because he is not getting promoted fast enough...instead of sticking it out and proving loyality and dedication...DD shows he is serious about Tennessee and will get the job done. He will prove his worth. Our patience and his dedication will pay huge dividends..Let's just calm down and breath.....My rant was over after Fla. and I came to my senses.

BS

Its more to it than money

Only a moron believes that a top shelf coach will come in and risk the rest of his career for any amount UT is reasonably willing to pay. It would take considerably more than what Muschamp got at UF or Saban got at Bama. They will want guaranteed money... not performance based. They'll want a high buy out too.

At some point you have to put yourself in that guy's shoes. They can make as much or nearly as much without the risks at another program. UT does NOT have enough money to massively outbid any and everyone. The top shelf coaches saw UT as a career ender.... and still would if Dooley were replaced now.

Exactly

Way to early to make a prediction like this. We are playing mostly freshmen and sophomore's, and have very little depth. We lost our best player on defense before the season even started, and have lost our 2 best players on offense since. We aren't exactly playing a weak SEC schedule like Georgia is this year either. Dooley is doing as well as any other coach would be right now. Threads like this should be deleted immediately.

The OP was probably born a Vol fan and has been one from that point forward without ever wavering from that conviction. He simply doesn't think CDD will get the job done and can separate reason from emotion (it's called being objective).

All I have to say about your post is that my wife has not earned a billion dollars and I predict that she never will. However, I think I will stick with her for a few more years, if she will have me.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I do not agree with yours as it pertains to our coach. I think Dooley is on the right track and that we will be beating Bama, LSU, Florida, and Georgia in the near future.

Ok. Would a huge payout to a coach not more than pay for itself in donations and ticket sales if he were to start winning? We can't let an unwillingness to take a chance and pay a qualified coach be the reason we remain uncompetitive. I understand last time that the situation basically dictated that we were going to have to settle for someone like DD, but under normal circumstances, we could do MUCH better. DD should be given his fair shot and coach through next year, but if we don't improve dramatically next season, it's going to be time to open up the checkbook and pay a real coach.

What are your reasons for feeling like he can't do it?

What are your reasons for thinking he can?...I mean I like coach Dooley and think he is a class act and all but I honestly do not think he is the coach to take us to the next level...But that is just my opinion and it means diddly squat.
