Alzado wanted to win at any cost, whatever it took. And he did, and if I remember correctly, it cost him. He died of cancer that he said was brought on by steroid use.

Lots of tough info coming out in the book. People digging ainge and his issues with pills and relate them to his play will be in denial that Sweetness played his HOF career loaded with various drugs.

Just like Steve McNair, I'm going to continue to remember him for what he did on the field. Don't really care about anything else.

I just don't understand why people get so upset about stuff like this. I think it shows the unbelievable toll the game takes on your body and mind, and that even the greatest people are not perfect. Why do our heroes have to be perfect?

Bingo. You can still admire them but thinking they were perfect is silly.

I did a paper on Alzado and his use of steroids. It turned into a sad life off the field.

wow, the guy was human...imagine that. Havent read the book have read the bit thats in this weeks SI...he was a beast at his profession...
