Giles County High School introduces Walt Smith as the new head coach

Giles County High School introduces Walt Smith as the new head coach of the Bobcat football program. There was no shortage of quality candidates vying for the position; some 40 applications were submitted from local coaches as well as Texas, Georgia, Kentucky and Alabama.

Walt Smith brings an impressive resume as a Head Coach. Smith spent nine seasons with the Mt. Pleasant Tigers and amassed a 76-32 record. Coach Smith lead his team to the playoffs 8 of the 9 years he was there and back to back semifinal appearances in 2006 and 2007. He also lead Zion Christian to the first round of the 2012 playoffs in his first season there.

Walt Smith and his abilities have appeared on the Giles County coaching radar before. Smith was a finalist during the hiring of Tim Johnson. His shotgun spread offensive philosophy meshes perfectly with the current Bobcat system and personnel. Coach Smith stresses defensive speed and instinct and puts a large priority on special teams.

As the GCHS football program embarks on one of the toughest schedules in recent history, the new leader entrusted with the Bobcat football
program made it clear that the goal for the program will be to continue to pursue championship caliber football. Coach Smith stated, "The Giles County head football coach is the job I have always wanted."

Good hire by GC. Smith is a good coach and a good guy. I hate Giles County, but he will continue to get them to the playoffs most every year
