walk on tryouts?

I'm getting weak picturing Lopez play that zone last year lol.

I'm getting weak thinking that Brandon Lopez was the 1 reason why we didn't make it to the NCAA tournament.

The Brandon Lopez I remember was a serviceable backup who averaged 0.2 points per game during his career.

Great kid, big heart... Not a game changer, though.

Dane Bradshaw was one of the most important guys to ever don a UT basketball uni! It was because of him that Pearl had so much success here. Dane was a coach on the floor and he also had some memorable plays. He tipped in the winning basket against Okie St. in Nashville even though his arms were so sore that he had great pain in lifting them above his shoulders. He fed Lofton the ball to bring about a win against Fla. in Gainesville on the last play of the game. He was named as the most valuable glue guy in the SEC during his senior year.

But the rule on VN is "if you can't say something bad about someone...say nothing at all"! Of course this rule only applies to the curmudgeons that post here!

However, most of our fans love The Big Orange and respect all of those who have worked their butts off to make UT a great academic institution that has a major emphasis on athletic competition!

I assumed people that had any working knowledge of Tennessee basketball would know what Bradshaw contributed. I doubt if someone said Wilt Chamberlain and Dwight Howard were some of the worst free throw shooters of all time a question would be raised about what they contributed to their teams.

I have heard Bradshaw make jokes about his own shooting ability.

anyone notice Senior/Buzz talking to himself or is it just me?

I've read many of your posts and liked what you have to say most times. It's sad that you now have joined those who I have lost respect for in doing a personal attack. That kind of behavior is bullying from the word GO!

Bullies have little self respect and find it necessary to go along with the crowd in order to feel good about themselves. I hope that this was just an aberration on your part!

BTW, "Office Space" is one of my favorite movies, as well. Gary Cole played his part to the hilt, however my favorite character, and I imagine many others, was the guy who played "Milton".

Bradshaw's purpose was not to shoot the ball! His purpose was to be a facilitator to his teammates so that they could get the high pct. shots needed to win games. He was also a heck of a defender and one who blocked out to help in the rebounding phase of the game.

Tennessee bb would have not been any where near as successful had he not been a part of the lineup!

Do you really not get it? He is simply pointing out that Dane was a poor shooter, which doesn't taint his legacy, nor is it buriat's intention to taint Dane's legacy or ability in other areas. Dane himself would tell you he wasn't a good shooter, and anyone with an ounce of basketball acumen understands that that wasn't his role. However, pointing out his inability to shoot the ball in a conversation about bad shooters doesn't take away from his great accomplishments and abilities that you listed. You're making it about more than it is.

Why have a thread that focuses on the negatives that players possess rather than have a thread that focuses on the positives that players possess? What one concentrates on is what one gets! This is my point.

I don't dislike anyone on this board; I just don't care for some of the things that I read. Everyone has a democratic right to express their opinion on anything about UTK sports. But it seems like it would be much better to accentuate the positive. And, whatever one thinks about the post, not to damn the poster who's opinion one disagrees with!

I think he was merely bringing up an interesting talking point (during a slow period) that you took exception to, and ran with it. He meant no disrespect to Bradshaw, and has basically said as much.

I agree that others have differing opinions and generally speaking, those opinions should be respected. However, when those opinions border upon obsessive, become unsolicited and interjected talking points in every thread, and simultaneously stray from the obvious truth, then it becomes an obvious troll attempt.

Please explain what you mean by troll attempt. The subject of this thread was about walk-on tryouts which degenerated into a topic about horrible shooters!

Is it just me or do we seem to have a lot of guys on this board who only played 1 year of high school ball that want to play for UT?!

Maybe you need to reread the post that you made this comment about.

Who knows, this guy may be a late bloomer. I recall Jeremy Lin who took NYC by storm when he helped The Knicks garner a few wins that brought himself instant notoriety in a positive way!

So what? Are you going to police every thread that strays from the original topic? I hope you have a lot of free time on your hands, because that could keep you busy. The original thread subject was shut down pretty quickly when the OP got his feelings hurt (somehow) in post #2.

The troll attempt refers to those posters who seemingly have an overriding obsession with interjecting their hard line opinions about the same topic in numerous threads.

If buriat was popping in and out of 3, 4, or 5 threads at a time to bring up Dane Bradshaw's inability to shoot well when it was completely out of the context of the original discussion, then it would be an obvious troll attempt.

See any and all posts from your buddy Senior Drill if you need a tangible example of that.

Are you kidding me?

Lin was a 4 year starter at Harvard. While under the radar his rise to stardom (for about 1 week, albeit) was far from college student/online poster to walk on, to NBA star.

GTFO.

Bradshaw was the glue of the UT teams he played on and Milton was the unquestioned star in "Office Space" because he worked for free and his cubicle and stapler were always getting moved around.

Because that's such a common standard to judge against right? :thud:

There is more than likely no one enrolled at UT that is capable of playing significant seconds during a real game. However, walk-ons are needed for practice purposes, even if it is to retrieve basketballs for players practicing their free throws.

This thread was started by a student asking the question if and when might CRB hold tryouts for walk-ons. A poster seemed to be disgusted about students who may have played one year of hs bb for having the audacity to think that they could contribute any playing time to the team.

Why put down those who just want to help in any way possible? It doesn't mean that anyone who tries out is gonna make the cut! Did you ever see the movie..."Rudy"?
