Walk-on QB - ZERO Stars

He was ineffective he entire scond half, and was injured. Another QB (Webb) came in and got the win. I know what you're trying to say, but Mayfield walked on out of choice - he had offers from Rice and a few others and Scout had him at a 3*, so it's not like he was completely inheard of.

Exceptions do not make examples....

Given the ill luck we've had in the last decade, we will not have any 0* walk-on do magic!

C'mon man. The first true-freshman walk-on to ever start a season for a BCS program. That's the point. Who give a rip how many stars a kid has. I want players. Gamers! Stars are for the fans. I remember doing curls in our weight-room in college and our strength coach walked by and said "Curls are for the girls! -- It's not going to help you on the football field." Couldn't be more true. Anyway, maybe there is no point. Thanks for pointing that out this morning. Have a great day!

Texas Tech won that game on a lot of luck. The officials gave them every chance to win and they took advantage.

take the "W" off the board because they got lucky. If I were CBJ I'd call Klingsbury and have him Fed-Ex that rabbits foot to Eugene. You take em' any way you can get em'

Baker Mayfield was a 3*. Not a 0*.

And even if he was a 3 star, it is dumb as hell to try and say that stars do not mean anything. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule, but there is overwhelming evidence that stars do in fact matter.

beat TCU last night. Just sayin'. After the wifers, it's all a crap shoot.

This may be lost with some of the goobers in this forum. They look to the "experts" to tell them if somebody can be developed and win instead of the coaches that work for their school.

The decision to care about is the one involving who will be the head coach. Everything that happens after that is dependent on that one decision.

Can someone tell me what "wifers" means....?

That's just a term I picked up from a college coach who came to my home in Chicago in the late 90's to watch film.

He said..."Dont' show me the wifers, show me some kids that might be under the radar."

Wifers, meaning kids his wife would know can play.

A win is always good, but that was the ugliest football game I've watched so far this season. TCU is not nearly as disciplined as they usually are. Webb for Tech made a great throw when he had to. Penalties kill!:banghead2:

Appears we have a lot of people from the Football forum in this thread today. Geez.

Chris ... Thanks for the insight. I appreciate your perspective.

These threads always leave out something incredibly important. Yes a 2 star here and there makes a game changing play; however, tomorrow tons of 4-5 star kids will determine games. For every 2 star who makes an impact, there are 40-50 4 stars who are doing it.

Yes, but the point is stars dont always determine whether a player will succeed or not.

What did the anecdote about a (clearly highly trained and educated) strength coach have to do with anything?
