Wake up Vols......

Take away the QB position and drama.... The recruiting and portal has to take a step up with this staff.... The new is wearing off.... Seen this story before.... Recruiting needs to be top 3 SEC.. Oline development/ WR development
So if ine were to search your history, i would venture a guess theyd find you were ipset nout the CJH hire 4 years ago. Probably made statements about how he couldnt recruit and would be a total failure. And now after a playoff appearance are looking for reasins you were right all along?

i am just guessing here but it is the only explanation that makes sense given what this staff has accomplished, considering the hand they were dealt.

There’s a lot of whining on this board. Get a life and enjoy the ride.

Agree. I think the OP is way off but to defend the views of the OP, I think people are sick of the #1998 talk we get and the Uncle Lous of the world talking crap. I imagine that is maybe what is driving all of the feedback in this thread.

Get off social media. Josh Heupel has done well here and we are in a good spot, even with all the Nico drama.

I wouldn't call it "not feasible" but at the moment, it is daunting. Keep in mind we were in similar predicaments in the 1980s but then Majors and Fulmer starting having consistent 10+ win seasons and eventually Tennessee became a "go to" recruiting place until it fell off in early 2000s.

It just takes winning and right effort. Keep in mind we are just now getting over the scholarship reductions from Pruitt. I think that is something the OP isn't considering.
It can happen, but it will take consistently established 10 win seasons that include victories over Georgia, Alabama and Florida. You don't build credibility in just a few seasons.

In the meantime .... some self-awareness with realistic expectations needs to take hold. Are things really so bad under Josh Heupel? No, they're not.

That is an understatement. Some of these posters must forget the Derek Dooley, Butch Jones, and Jeremy Pruitt years. We are a contender again. I feel like we are about where we were in 1989-1992 or so time frame. We are winning but we can't get the whole thing. During that time, we also had this long losing streak against Alabama and struggled to beat Florida so people made fun of that. It is kind of like the ineptitude we are having with Georgia right now and the #1998 crap.

People just need to be patient. Alabama could be falling off as well and Florida isn't in the best spot.

Some of the recruiting and portal misses have been concerning. But yet you cannot underestimate what CJH has done with the program considering what he walked in to. He will either continue that success in this new NIL landscape or we fall back into the SEC cellar.

I can't believe the idiocy of some of our fans. Just look at some of the responses in this thread. WTF..........

Nothing has changed with NIL in terms of being able to predict whether a celebrated high school athlete will turn into a celebrated college or NFL player. There have been and will continue to be many busts - players that are just not as good as advertised, players who could be as good as advertised but don't want to put in the work or dedication it takes to do so. Players who don't fit well into the defensive and offensive scheme they have chosen.

The players come into college transitioning from the "big fish" in the little pond to the "little fish" in the big ocean. They just may not be as good as advertised and/or getting to that point may take sacrifice and compromise that they are not willing to make.

I'm not sure if it is Nico or his family - but for some reason there is the attitude that the football team MUST revolve around him. That is NOT how a team succeeds. It takes all the players working together for success. We needed Sampson and the defense last year more than we needed Nico - maybe that is the issue that he and his family really have - their son wasn't the star of the team.

This is the opposite of a Nited Post. Nited Posts are delusionally optimistic posts. You have to remember, the late great poster who originated the phrase was ranting about Nega Vols and how they needed to shut up, and he implored everyone to "nite your post, or don't post!".

NOTE: while I wish to preserve the true meaning of "nited posts" in honor of one of VN's all-time threads, for the record I think this OP's post is ridiculous. Josh Heupel brought us out of the literal sewer of college football. A few years ago we would have been dying to have "8-4" to be considered an off year.

We will see a lot about recruiting this season with the team having to rally around a very inexperienced QB. I don't care if we get in a 4 year transfer QB, he's still going to be inexperienced in Heupel's system...We will really be able to see the recruiting after this season because it looks like the schedule is going to get much tougher.

We all love Knoxville but who honestly wants to live here over Austin, T Town, Auburn, Baton Rouge, Gainesville, Nashville, or College Station? This isn’t a real college town. The weather here sucks, outside of summer.

Yeah, and White needs to do something about that Rick Barnes. That dude is here just for the retirement paycheck, I mean all he's done is gone to 7 striaght NCAATs, 3 straight S16s for the first time ever in program history and back to back EEs for the first time in history (and just 3rd EE ever)....clearly needs to get him in shape.

And Tony V....he's 11-4 in the SEC this year, how come he's lost 4 games already? We can't be not repeating as National Champsions. And Kim Caldwell....all she did was beat UConn this year and got back to the S16, why isn't she winning the NC yet? And Weekly with the LV Softball team, they've only won series against Oklahoma and Texas this year.....

Recruiting rankings often are ********. Texas, TxA&M, Florida, Georgia & LSu will probably always be ranked higher cause the majority of kids in those states will be rated higher than the same kid in Tennessee, North Carolina or Virginia.

I’ve lived in Baton Rouge. I could not wait to get the F out. Economy sucks, quality of life sucks and unless you love 90% humidity every day, the weather sucks too.

Honestly, I don't have confidence that this coach or staff can take that step. There are some positions that either aren't developed well enough and/or that have poor evaluators. Let's not forget that Nico was THE choice at QB for Heupel coming out of HS.

What Nico was last year was after 2 years of coaching and development. Would year 3 have been better? We'll never know. If Nico flops at UCLA, it will still make some fans(me) question Heupels eval. If he balls out, some fans (me) will question why our staff couldn't get that kind of performance out of Nico. No win situation. The next couple of seasons will be very interesting for Josh Heupel.
These are facts. I worry we've crested. The main issue I am seeing is either weaker talent evaluation or less development (not sure which). Sometimes a new coach can make up for the weaknesses of an old coach...but then later you find out they had their own weaknesses.
