Wade thinks Olympians(NBA players) should get paid

I didn't finish my thought about tradition....traditionally, the Olympics were for amateurs. Once they started allowing pro athletes in and making it big business, tradition went out the window. If people are going to be making money off of Wade playing for his country (jerseys, TV, etc.), I don't see why he should be considered greedy for wanting a piece of the action.

Want to get paid? Then don't play. I think someone else would jump in to take his spot.

Exactly.

Nobody is forcing him to play. If he doesn't want to, he doesn't have to. It's not volunteering if you believe you should get paid. Don't represent the country then. I already hope he doesn't with his attitude.

I'm not taking dwade's side here at all, but the last sentence went too far. He played harder than anyone last Olympics. He was awesome.

What? It's volunteering if you do it and don't get paid, regardless of how you feel about it.

Just not a fan of him. I've disliked him since his days of playing with Shaq. I would dislike him regardless of his recent comments.

I'm talking about the future. Also, I doubt you'll find anyone volunteering at a homeless shelter thinking to themselves, "I deserve to get paid for this". They definitely wouldn't go to the local paper and complain about it. Granted, helping the needy is different but if you don't want to play in the Olympics, don't. Most of the players are the top players in the NBA and most of the top players make what, 20 million a year just with their basketball contract? They also have endorsements.

I just find it annoying that the economy is terrible and we have people fighting a war for this country and he's complaining that he wouldn't make even more money to represent the country.

Plus, did you see what Colangelo said?

Colangelo: Why NBA Olympians are not paid
"When I took over the program in 2005, they were in a terrible losing situation financially," Colangelo said. "During the next four years, I quadrupled the revenue, but that only brought us to break even. That covers all of the expenses for the men, women, boys and girls, all the way down. We sell sponsorship, sell tickets to exhibition games."

Stop right there. We're not talking about real philanthropy. We're talking about the Olympics.

I don't think I believe Colangelo. How is it that USA Soccer has all the resources to run their youth programs, etc. and still has money to pay the players? Hard to imagine they could generate that much more in revenue than USA hoops could.

They make enough as it is. If they feel they need more, then don't play. Let those that feel HONORED play.
