VT message board - Outlook on BoB after UT/Appy St. Game

Hrm:

Clearly a lot of mutual respect here...

Ah, the irony of a guy from Tennessee accusing someone else of being an inbred redneck.

It's not that you guys don't have class, it's just that it's third or fourth...

Boy that's original. I bet his momma's proud.

Pot, kettle?! I mean, unless your last name is Neyland maybe we should stick to stuff that's happened since WWII? For the record, VT fans willingly admit that we were nothing in football prior to Beamer's arrival, and that despite a lot of success under Beamer we still haven't reached "elite" status. But just for fun, since the start of the Fulmer era in '92:

  • TN is 195-97 (.668) (152-52 under Fulmer, 6-7 under Kiffin, 16-21 under Dooley, and 21-17 under Jones)
  • TN's last losing season was 2013.
  • TN is 10-8 in bowl games.
  • TN won the 1998 MNCG, defeating F$U.

Meanwhile:

  • VT is 216-89-1 (.708)
  • VT's only losing season was in 1992.
  • VT is 11-12 in bowl games (23 straight and counting).
  • VT lost the 1999 MNCG to F$U.

Sure, you guys won the MNC and we didn't. But at least our former coach isn't the namesake for the annual criminal achievement award.

All BS aside, I think you guys win, but it'll be closer than most think. I'll say 37-33.

Not that I give the douche any credit, but kiffin went 7-6.

I don't hate VT, aside from my time at VMI, and I grew up near you in Winchester, VA. Welcome to the board.

We won a national championship. VT played in the ACC and could never win won. VT will probably at this point never win a championship. You can't compare our two programs. Tennessee is elite. VT is above-average.

Elite cause you won 1 National Championship? When was your last losing season again? When was the last time you won the SEC? :no:Not Elite status today!

You mean 4 national championships and 6 if we use the Alabama method.

Also top 10 wins all time,

top 10 in players drafted (almost 200 more than VT),

more than double current players in nfl than VT,

80 million in salary in nfl per year to VTs 45 million which is ranked 12 overall, etc.

Tennessee is an elite program. They just haven't been an elite team in a few years. That may or may not change this year. I'm curious on Saturdays game for that opinion to be cemented.

I stand corrected:):good!:I'm young, those things were before my time...carry on!

Ah, John Ballein. :banghead2: :finger3: :p That one still hits like a kick to the nuts, and there's not a damned thing we can do but take our medicine... at least until we win a title.

For those that don't know, the backstory behind that pic is that in 1998 our director of football operations pitched this idiotic idea that we should have an empty trophy case "reserved for the national championship trophy". Interestingly we ended up making it to the MNCG the very next year, but lost to F$U. Needless to say, it's been bulletin board material for rival fans ever since, as VT hasn't made it back to the championship game, let alone won one.

Oh dear. That hurts. I thought it had to have been a photoshop by one of your rivals.

Ouch.

Please tell me someone has broken that thing into a million pieces since then.

First Chatt wanted to thank you for all effort and time for great thread. Is thread coming tonight or tomorrow ?

Thankfully it went away in 2014, but thanks to the Internet, it will never be truly gone.

Welcome to the board. I actually kinda like VT. Have a friend who is a big fan. I have always maintained here and elsewhere that if the SEC were to expand you guys are the obvious choice
The next best is clemson, but SC would block that and never let it happen unfortunately. Vt and clemson have very similar programs to SEC schools in that they have rabid football fans and all other sports are distant 2nd. Kentucky is the only SEC school that is not football first, and they still manage to pack their stadium and beat most OOC opponents even though they suck. I would much rather have you guys in the east than Misery. For petes sake.

I agree. I've always thought VT was the logical choice for expansion. I thought they should have been brought in before Mizzou and AtM. I think when we add two more teams it should be VT and possibly UNC or NC State. Put them both in the East and move Mizzou to the West.

The only thing that I feel is different about the game is that I'm hoping their fans have had their ego deflated a little bit. Lots of first half surrender cobras on TV, so I hope they are brought back down to Earth. Then I remember that with UT fans, that's not a possibility and most of them will just come up with an excuse rather than look at the fact that they won because the opposing kicker missed a PAT. I'm hoping for the former, concerned it may be the latter.

We only lost to Bama last year because of a couple missed FGs last year.:dunno:

App St. Was only in the game because we fumbled a punt.:dunno:

It's always because of one play <-blue font

Every play counts. Both teams have to go make them. The phrase "deserved to win" means nothing, you either win (see app St game) or you lose (see last year Florida and OU).

I was a huge proponent of us joining the SEC. But pretty much everyone in a position of power at VT was/is against it, and now with the grant of rights it's basically impossible. Unless there is some kind of breakaway republic where the top 60-80 teams leave the NCAA, we're stuck where we are IMO.

That said, there's no reason we couldn't schedule a bunch of home-and-homes with you guys... OOC scheduling is a nightmare for everyone, but if both sides wanted to make it happen I'm sure that it could. It would be cool to visit Neyland for a VT-UT game.
