VT message board - Outlook on BoB after UT/Appy St. Game

We will just have to disagree....I think our realistic losses this year are Tennessee, Miami and Notre Dame. We might lose 1 more to either Pitt of UNC. And we also might just beat the Vols on Saturday.

You keep stating the fact that VT is less Talented....ok...you know what, maybe we don't have the 5 star kids that the Vol's have, but we got a plenty of 3 and 4 star players, that play like dogs.....get in your face and sack you in the mouth. Our Defense is just as good, if not better then the Vols...you will see that on Saturday. Our biggest question mark is the offense. If our offense gets better, each and every game, fust like your hoping the Vol's do, then the VT team will be just fine.

There was a post on here somewhere that said our JUCO QB played in front of 100 people, so he will be shell shocked at Bristol. Well, that may be true, but he did get 3 Quarters of "warm up play" in front of 62000 and managed the offense just fine with 4 TD passes. Im sure he will have butterflies in front of 160000, but he will settle in and drop dimes on your Defense.

So you are tea bag U now?

We will not spank VT. I think we win respectively, but to base this teams success on their Liberty game, is as asinine as it would be to base our play off of App State. If Tennessee shows up sloppy this game will go south. Quickly.

VT's RBs combined for 111 rushing yards on 32 carries for a whopping 3.46 YPC against Liberty. Granted, evans had 5 rushes at about 9 ypc, but I have a feeling our defense will be able to limit their running game pretty well. If we stay ahead of down and distance, our pass rush and DBs should cause some havoc on VT's offense.

IMO, this game will come down to whether our OL can get their s*** straightened out and whether we can get Dobbs, Hurd, and Kamara going on the ground or not. If we can do that, avoid turnovers, and play field position like we did in 2015 so well (thanks to our punting and PR game), I think we should win by a comfortable 14-21 point margin. If the OL continues to play like slaw and leave Dobbs and Hurd out to dry, it will be an ugly game for both offenses, IMO.

Yes they did, gave up 52 points and like 400+ yards. That was last year, playing 4 freshman in the secondary due to injuries. They are no longer freshman, and have improved drastically over the summer and fall camp. The entire D has improved!

Fair enough.

Most didnt see Appy State doing anything against our D. As a matter of fact, I recall several posts on here saying they wouldnt even score. How did that go?

They got a huge break off a muffed punt and got lucky on a wheel route. 13 points off that isn't too bad for our defense.

And..Im not disputing that the Vol's have better players and a better offense then we do. With that being said, I think our Defense shuts them down, just like Appy State did.

Only way you guys win this game IMO, is your O Line needs to give Dobbs time to pass the ball to keep the chains moving...or just Run Hurd, Kamara and Dobbs up the middle every play.

We've already got that box checked

Yep...seriously, this will be the best defense VT has put on the field since 2009.... last relevant defense. We will shut down passing games and probably... when it's all said and done, be top 10 in total defense, Int's and passing yards allowed. The only question mark on the defense is the LB play, and I know It was Liberty but the LB's stuck to assignments and played incredible.

2nd string/backups played the entire 4th quarter and we only gave up 160 yards. The defense will be great. If we have a "functioning" offense, we will win the Coastal.

With Liberty, and justice for all...

A weak schedule, really! Lets see, we play you guys and Notre Damn in the OOC....and have some pretty good teams in the ACC on the schedule.

Granted we don't have the 4 game hard stretch that you guys have, but your last 5 games you could win blindfolded, playing the same vanilla way yall played Thursday night.

Yep. Think about what you just said.

But in the mid-late '90's I went to several VT games and quickly found out that their fans hated UT. I never really figured it out other than the close proximity and them feeling like a little redheaded stepchild compared to the nearby SEC power.

Hrm:

Virginia Tech sucks, Enter Sandman is exceptionally overrated, their stadium blows, and their fans are goobers.

They are a mid level team, and program with a mid level stadium and Mickey Mouse intro(sandman ).

NRV area is a terrible place.

Clearly a lot of mutual respect here...

Because they are all related. They have the same DNA.

Ah, the irony of a guy from Tennessee accusing someone else of being an inbred redneck.

I lived in SWV for awhile and most have a chip on their shoulder concerning TN VOLS. They actually think they are in the same class as TN.

It's not that you guys don't have class, it's just that it's third or fourth...

Va*ina tech Hokie is a castrated turkey

Boy that's original. I bet his momma's proud.

VT fans have a seriously over inflated sense of themselves, their team, their place in college football and their history.

Pot, kettle?! I mean, unless your last name is Neyland maybe we should stick to stuff that's happened since WWII? For the record, VT fans willingly admit that we were nothing in football prior to Beamer's arrival, and that despite a lot of success under Beamer we still haven't reached "elite" status. But just for fun, since the start of the Fulmer era in '92:

  • TN is 195-97 (.668) (152-52 under Fulmer, 6-7 under Kiffin, 16-21 under Dooley, and 21-17 under Jones)
  • TN's last losing season was 2013.
  • TN is 10-8 in bowl games.
  • TN won the 1998 MNCG, defeating F$U.

Meanwhile:

  • VT is 216-89-1 (.708)
  • VT's only losing season was in 1992.
  • VT is 11-12 in bowl games (23 straight and counting).
  • VT lost the 1999 MNCG to F$U.

Sure, you guys won the MNC and we didn't. But at least our former coach isn't the namesake for the annual criminal achievement award.

All BS aside, I think you guys win, but it'll be closer than most think. I'll say 37-33.

That helmet looks GREAT. Only 1 thing could make it better; face the uzi towards the front.

All in good fun! :beerf:

Seriously, I came over here because I don't actually know much about you guys, other than what little I remember from the bowl game in '09. Count me among those would love to see this become a much more regular thing. I'd damn sure rather play UT every year than ECU, for example. I think/hope you'll be (un)pleasantly surprised at how good a game we give you, but I'm worried that both teams will improve dramatically between games 1 & 2...

Unlike a lot on here, I actually like VT (obviously this week excluded). I think the fan bases (less numbers) are very similar. There is a reason why it's VT and TN at Bristol and it's not just proximity. They knew both fan bases could be counted on to bring the max number of people. They also know it's going to be as loud as the venue allows for (Not set up for noise like a college football stadium).

One of two things will happen:

1) We were vastly overrated, we again have offensive line problems, and VT makes it a ball game.

2) We come out pissed off ready to prove something and make a statement to the nation that last week is not the normal.

To be honest, the entire SEC has started off really bad. Let's hope for the same tonight. FIGHT ON!

Good points.

Except

UGA
BAMA

looked well coached.

A&M won off talent.

The coaching quality has slipped in the SEC.

App State would beat Virginia Tech by two touchdowns. They'll beat Miami FL in Boone in two weeks.

I don't think UT will win any national title this year, which was a remote chance before this season started, but I expect us to look quite a bit better against VT this weekend.

Based on talent. UT should beat VT by 2 plus scores. Based on the coaching and team performance from the ASU game.... I just don't know. UT should have beaten ASU by more than the 20 pt spread and didn't.

After watching VT struggle against Liberty, my confidence has skyrocketed. This is our game to lose.

I'd rather play UT than ECU too if we've lost to them 2 times in a row...

I also don't mind VT. My dad's side of the family is all from VA and are VT fans
