Here are the highlights from the pod.
1. It was always assumed Joey would be the starter
2. VQ said that coaches are allowed to be more hands-on during spring than they realized which rapidly accelerated JAs grasp of the offense
3. They said he "slammed the door shut" on the competition Friday. He must have balled out

If the first statement is true, JM must not be as talented as expected. He had a pretty solid offer list coming out of HS.

I hope the third statement is accurate and JA balls out.
Let's hope Merk has the talent and is a with the QB 'IT' factor in every way. Yet, JA is that good! If so, UT should make the playoffs again!

Wonder why he left UCLA? He also had the experience and age factor over Nico.
No he didn’t. Nico had a full year as the starter, two in the system. And everyone knows we didn’t get dollar-for-dollar value on Nico. But they had a guy sitting there with 2 years exp at one of the better G4 teams. We had to do what we had to do. Do u want to imply that GMac sucks too? He’s the only one you left out.

I didn't imply anything. I said what i think about the situation.

Jake must not be as talented as expected. He was considered a top tier QB coming out of HS, who had nearly 18 months with CJH. He should have been ahead of JA, who wasn't considered a top tier qb coming out of HS or even after setting records at Appy St. There were many teams much better than UCLA that needed a qb this year. Few; if any, were that interested in JA.

I sincerely hope Aguilar kicks ass and leads us to many wins with his qb play. But i expect our wins to come on the backs of the running game and defense. Should JA try to be more than a game manager, the season may not go well.

He may prove me wrong amd i will be happy he does. But i honestly expect CJH to keep him in check and we win a 9 or 10 games with him handing the ball off a bunch.

That's mostly for bragging rights and if parents are willing to push themselves to the brink of bankruptcy, they can help get that offer list pretty high. But, the list is not always indicitive of the talent.

Case in point:
My kid has a good friend back from our hometown (we moved to TN as he was entering MS). This kid converted from QB to TE due to rotator cuff injuries. 3A Ga HS. A pretty darn good one though. Has a decent list of college signees. Even some SEC and FSU types along the way and final 4 state appearances at the dome. Anyway, this kid was on no ones radar his JR year, even though he was putting up some pretty darn good highlight reels at TE. Somehow his parents got him into some kind of all-star game down in Houston maybe. Lots of recruiters. By the time his Sr season was over, he had 19 D1 offers alone and went to ND. Kelly brought him in. Bad choice IMO. They were incredibly deep at TE, and the starter was the best in the country along with Bower at UGA. Got some special teams play time as a FR. Season ending knee injury 4th game. Kelly to LSU. Freeman in. Berong down to the bottom of the depth chart. Along comes the portal. 18 months after receiving 19 D1 offers, the best he could do in the portal was Coastal. Not to disparage the kid. We like him alot, and has always stayed in touch with mine. But, the quantity of offers is often in disagreement with actual top end talent. He's really good. D1 good. But, at 6-3, 240 lbs his size is marginal. But not 19 offers good or Coastal wouldn't have been his best deal in the portal. Then he tore the knee up again. He finally got to play last year after 4 seasons of mostly rehab. Never made since though. He's honor student type, so said he chose ND for academics but then transferred to Coastal? We all knew it was his dad that wanted to say his son was at ND. College would have been way better him to stay home for Kirby and be in line behind Bower. He'd have had two solid years as a starter as he would have had a real shot at #2 on UGA's TE depth. Hope it goes well for him in his last season though. He's getting his RS senior season, and is the only SR TE on the roster. Woul to see him have a really good college year for a change after all the injuries. Two ACL's on same knee in 18 months gotta make it uneasy when you line up.

It’s a long season. Jake may be a smidge behind or he may be a canyon behind. All I know is odds are he will be on the field at some point this season.
