Volympics

Both 1 and 3 could have been accomplished without broadcasting it to the world. 2 is what I've been saying. It's all about making the fans into Jones cheerleaders.

Can you really blame the guy? I mean really? We just ran our last coach out on a rail (deservedly so IMO), and two coaches before that we canned a hall of famer. Hell, it would be asinine to come in and act like a Nick Saban azzhole when this entire fan base needs something to believe in with regards to the team.

To preempt the "just do it on the field" crowd, this is the off season. CBJ can have the Volympics, and still get it done come August. Will he? Who knows? But I don't believe having a program that promotes cohesive team bondin is a detriment to our program at all. It seems like a non-issue.

Furthermore, maybe the team knowing that their performance in this whole deal is going to be broadcast to the entire city will be a motivating factor for them to represent the city with class and pride. I don't really think that is a bad thing either.

There's a contingent among our fan base that will refuse to be happy with anything, but they can just eat one, again just IMO.

Once again, tell me how the players on Martin's team have represented themselves. Do they respect Martin? Are they good citizens?

Martin's issues have been with talent and strategy. He's been wildly successful at instill character, values and repsonsibilities of manhood to his team.

Martin has @ 12 players to worry about vs 100. Just stfu and let the coach try to lead his team and get them together. We will be better when individuals handle their own business every day and when they play for each other. That is what this is designed for, and players in the past few years have done neither. They have handled their business with a loser attitude and it has shown, much like your own loser mentality. You never made it on a Jr high team, so let the coaches figure out how to turn boys into men, as you surely have no idea.

When have I said it shouldn't be happening?

Like I said, Martin did it without even mentioning it publicly because it wasn't intended for the public. He believed that it would get results and had the balls to make it work. Unlike Jones, who is trying to get the pom-pom pants wearing section of the fanbase to pat him on the back for trying.

Really? Jones is doing this for publicity for internet fans?

As part of the middle tn contingent working to get UT's program in a better light, I've been able to be at several functions with former players and local businesses and hs coaches. Their opinions mean a little more and have a tad more value than that of the internet crybaby.
At any rate, keep *********. That way we know who the fool's are, and we know who would rather hurt the program than support.

Or he could have done them via the VOLympics with no harm done. Point 2 made no mention of Jones cheerleaders. It referred to excitement about the program.

This staff has broadcasted EVERYTHING they've done to the world, though. They use social media to give fans updates every day on the things they're doing for the team. Why should this one thing be any different?

I like the transparency

Just the intelligent response I was looking for. I'm sure you eat this garbage up, even though it will have zero effect on the field. You know, where it really matters? This is nothing more than orange pants and that stupid orange dog.

Actually something like this builds camaraderie between the players which in turn means you trust your teammates which means you don't play out of assignment on the field by trying to do too much

It's all about results yet some people want to run down Jones for tying to energize the fan base by comparing him to Cuonzo Martin, who if the season ended today has his team in its second straight NIT. Brilliant.

You make a good point. Jones is automatically right because his approach is different from Martin's. If Martin took the letter that Golden posted on Twitter and sent it to every news agency and Vol fan in America, I'm sure the basketball team would immediately jump into the Top 25.

Lol.

So there's a right and wrong now? Jones is automatically wrong because he differed from Martin? I must have missed the official guide on what's acceptable and what's not.

You're the one jumping on to compare the two coaches. Neither coach is jumping into or out of the top 25 based on how they choose to publicize the program, obviously. Yet, you act as if Martin's way is preferrable.
