If UT isn't a basketball school, then why are we top 3 in attendance? Are the 20k+ people showing up for games getting tricked? Do they think they are going to a football game?
Do you seriously want to argue this point?
Football always has been, and always will be (IMO), the most popular sport at UT.
For the other side of the coin look at Duke, UNC, KY etc.
Attendance is first a matter of having the capacity in the arena. UT has the room that many others don't. To compare 20,000 (Hoops)to 100,000 (football) is just ignorant. I highly doubt UT could pack 100,000 in weekly to watch hoops even with the facilities.

So the only criteria for being a "basketball school" is that basketball is the most popular sport on campus?
I won't argue the point if that is your definition. I just think your definition is stupid. It precludes programs like Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Michigan, etc. from being considered "basketball schools" regardless of the amount of success those programs have on the hardwood. Why lump a school into one category or the other? This isn't a zero sum game. Success in one sport doesn't come at the expense of the other -- a school can kick ass at both sports. Similarly, fan support isn't a zero sum game. Does the fact that football is more popular prevent students from filling in TBA and going nuts? Of course it doesn't.
My point is that a school can be both a "basketball school" and a "football school" all at once. And I would certainly hope that is our goal.
you should just keep it to this. this is the only thing you 've stated that makes any sense when discussing the status of mens basketball's place on the totum pole. which, btw, is right below football.:thumbsup:So the only criteria for being a "basketball school" is that basketball is the most popular sport on campus?

I really don't give a rat's ass about the whole rapping thing but I do have a question. Who thinks Coach K, Roy Williams, Bobby Knight, John Wooden, Bill Self, Jay Wright, Jim Calhoun, Mike Anderson, Jim Boeheim or any other coach at a high level program would get on a stage with his players and act like a clown for all the world to see?
Actually, it seems Pearl's biggest mistake in this situation was doing it immediately after a season in which he and the team underachieved. I know there were some people who have criticized the other stunts over the past few years, but none got as much of a negative reaction as this one.I bet at some point in their careers they all did. The difference is there wasn't a video of every sneeze on the internet.
And again, UT is not yet a "big-time" hoops program when compared to those you mention.

Maybe you should go back and read my original post on the subject. I wasn't hating on the hoops team. I simply stated a fact. It would be great if UT had monumental success on the hard wood. Look at the numbers here on VN when it comes to game threads. Which has more interest? Feel free to start a poll here and ask the question about what category UT falls in.
What schools would (in your mind) fit into the category of both a FB and BB school? I'm curious.
