Vols!

I agree. He has yet to win a NC.

I think he can win them at UT.

Do you think he can?

In the current state no. IMO he will have to hire a top flight DC and give that person complete control of the d, hiring coaches and all.

His offensive stuff has been quite impressive and he is average at game management, but a top flight d could compensate for that.

So you think he can with the right staff.

Me too.

I think the staff there now can do it.

So then what is the issue with the d?

We won't know until Fl.

GT didn't tell us anything. Going against the triple option, all the cut blocking.

Until we face a typical offense that has compareable P5 talent, we won't know what we have.

I do know that against a cut blocking triple option offense we looked like we didn't want to get hurt. I don't know how to defend a cut block. It looked line we lined up off the ball and would try to hop the block as we pushed down on the back of the blocker.

It looks like there has got to be a better way.

Letting them dive into your knees and ankles is not the answer.

I did see our DBs falling for the play action. All 10 times they threw the ball.

Again, how does anyone, including Herbstreit who started all this BS, know he was pissed off on the sidelines? Disappointed, probably. But I'm sure there were other Vols that thought they would get playing time that were just as disappointed. Good thing the camera wasn't on them.

I agree with you it was a coaching problem. Canales and Scott should have insisted both he and Mcbride were involved in what was happening. However if that's how they believe in coaching the offense and QB's then I can't say that it doesn't work. However, for the folks who bash JG because they are experts on body language, well f*** them.

JG is a kid that wanted to play and according to folks at practice the next day was just as involved as always. So maybe our body language experts shoutd stay off the airways when they feel like spouting out BS about a kid they don't know.

I also saw him standing with the players on the sidelines who were celebrating after the Vols' TD in the first OT. JG was like any ultra-competitive backup QB sitting on the sidelines when an offense is struggling, thinking he could go in and provide a spark. And you want that from your QBs. Barring an epic disaster, JG will get plenty of PT this Saturday. He will be fine.

Dickey
Overall: .707
Conf: .623

Jones
Overall: .596
Conf: .438

Butch has a whole lot of winning to do before he is even in the same conversation as Dickey.

Nick Saban's first five years coaching big boy football? .576 First four years? .531

You think Michigan State wishes they kept him?

And this is where we disagree. To me the GT sbowed me that we are right back where we were last season. I get that the triple option is hard to defend, however, they set a school record at it. Other teams hold them to reasonable yardage, we did not. Great on our guys for making the plays when necessary to win the game. But our secondary looked awful as well.
Hopefully im wrong and we look decent for the Florida game, but i have very little confidence on our defense.

Do you think Saban was able to recruit the same level of talent at Michigan State as he does at Alabama?

I thought the team played with heart and character. I also felt it was in spite of Jones and not because of him!

Based on what? Why can't we just get behind our coaches and players and appreciate the fact that they are THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS! We are the fans who support them but we aren't the ones who put in all the hard work, sweat, aches and pains that they do. And all the time the coaches spend away from their families either recruiting or working toward another season? How many of our spouses would still be our spouses if we were gone as much as they are. Lat's all just give it a rest and support our team and coaches.

Spent tons of time away from my family in the military.....making no where near 4 million a year.

But to your point, if you visit a fan site, you should expect to see various opinions on the team. It should come as no suprise.

So your expectation of Tennessee football is that a coach can go up to 7 years without a ten win season before feeling any pressure? Interesting, i thought youd have higher expectations than that.

And no, what breaks my heart is seeing tons of talent not reaching its potential due to poor coaching

Majors didn't win 10 games until his 10th season. Granted, he didn't have many 13 game seasons but but it was a 13 game season before he got to 10

Check out the two links below. CBJ has aquitted himself well considering the 5 years prior to his arrival and the fact that the level of play on the SEC is second to none. You can bash the East all you want but look st UTs West opponents records when we played them.

If CBJ is left alone he will build a winning program here. Run him off and he will do it elsewhere.

We don't always criticize the team and coach. We've been through a rough 7 years or so. We were horribly coached by Dooley and then allowed our bama legacy idiot of an ad to make what ends up being the biggest decision of the decade (choosing a head coach), and he choose an average big east coach. The coach by the way that dooley had his best win against.
Butch has inherited an absolute amazing situation as all of our eastern rivals have made coaching changes and TN is producing the most talent we've ever seen. And yet we're 2-2 against vandy. Even though we have future nfl players all over the field butch chooses the most conservative coaching style you'll ever see and it's almost sad how pathetic the game management/clock management is in games. He rarely makes any top 30 lists of coaches and is constantly upset/worried about what the media and fans think of him.
We're all fans or we wouldn't be here. Sorry we don't meet your cookie cutter idea of what a fan should say and do
VOLS!

Promise you im not running him off. All i do is attend a few games and chat on a message board. If he is on here checking out what is said we have bigger issues.

To the stats though. There was just no excuse to not win 9-10 games the past two years. For me personally, i can narrow it down to a couple games each year that had they been different that dude could sign his own check. But he is always on the other side of those games and thats my concern with him. Yeah its a small margin, but thats the difference between average, good and great in football. Kinda like those little inches he used to give out.

Son let me tell you. When it comes to being surprised by spiders and snakes.... Yep, I am.
