You had me until 3rd best coach...he certainly can be that guy, but needs to at least win the east before leapfrogging Dickey, Majors, Barnhill, and proving he doesn't belong in the Battle, Wyatt cluster of coaches who had modest success at one point in their UT career.

Who's this Sam Hell guy you speak of? ha

arguably the third best.

What were Dickey's records his first five years? I honestly don't know without looking it up but what he inherited likely wasn't on the level DD and LK left behind.

Another thing that most either don't understand or refuse to admit is the the SEC wasn't considered the best football conference by most until the 90's. When most of the other coaches in UT history were here, the SEC was basically what the Big East or Pac 12 are now.

Lol, if we lose JG it will be because his coach constantly said both QBs would play to open the season and they did. I may be wrong but i dont think JG was sitting on the sideline reading volnation when he looked upset. Heres a weird idea. Coach him up. Letting him sit on the sideline doing nothing is stupid. Stand him beside the qb coach and talk to him as the game progresses. See what he is seeing etc. But yeah, im sure twitter post were pissing him off during the game

Again, how does anyone, including Herbstreit who started all this BS, know he was pissed off on the sidelines? Disappointed, probably. But I'm sure there were other Vols that thought they would get playing time that were just as disappointed. Good thing the camera wasn't on them.

I agree with you it was a coaching problem. Canales and Scott should have insisted both he and Mcbride were involved in what was happening. However if that's how they believe in coaching the offense and QB's then I can't say that it doesn't work. However, for the folks who bash JG because they are experts on body language, well f*** them.

JG is a kid that wanted to play and according to folks at practice the next day was just as involved as always. So maybe our body language experts shoutd stay off the airways when they feel like spouting out BS about a kid they don't know.

I think for the most part QD made the correct read. When he didn't he either would give it to Kelly or throw it at JJ. There could be worse mistakes.

Players prepare their minds in differnt ways. For all I know he was in the "Zone" and was razor sharp. He plays a "cool hand".

Dickey
Overall: .707
Conf: .623

Jones
Overall: .596
Conf: .438

Butch has a whole lot of winning to do before he is even in the same conversation as Dickey.

Well technically a major part of the team quit on Butch after the USC game last year....sooooooo

I fully expect someone to bring up his record at Cincinnati and CMU, and try to explain how it should be factored into his stats at UT because of Derek Dooley and reasons. :)

It could happen.

Tennessee has gone 16-4 in the last 20 games. Only 4 teams have done better.

Tennessee OUTRUSHED GT the other night.

QD made some TREMENDOUS throws in that game. For real. The guy is a rock. A foundation of our team. If you would have put JG in there as a freshmen he would have lost that game and never recovered and you would be TRASHING him today. He would NEVER RECOVER.

Listen to the SEC country tennessee poscast.

GT rushed with 3 and we allowed fewer yards per attempt then GT with one back (plus one run by chandler).

The defense that people are trashing won this game.

Ok....that's not what you said. YPC is much different than Yards Allowed however.

I see what you mean though.

One question. A lot of posters in other threads are stating that QD is staring down his receivers so by using the term "read" it's safe to say that you mean reading the defensive alignment pre-snap? QB's make a read during the play also and QD is catching some heat over that read.

Also Dickey is a cooler name than Butch.

And I'm going to add calmer. When Butch's face turns tomato red on the sideline and he's screaming and shouting, I actually worry about the guy popping a blood vessel. So we have Dickey as being cooler, calmer. Need to address collective.

Sure. There is enough evidence to form an opinion either way, but to decide that he isn't a good coach and want to keep him does not make "perfect sense".

It's nonsense.

According to you he can't get it done(Win NCs.), but you say keep him. Nonsense.

Paint it however you want man. Why are you concerned with my opinion?

He threw to an open receiver most of the time. Whether it was a presnap read, or Coach Scott reading the defense from the booth and then calling the play, or even a during the play read, QD threw the ball to a lot of open recievers.

Maybe him watching a particular reciever the whole time is part of the plan. If he is reading the CB that is covering Callaway, why would he look anywhere else?

If he is open and you throw it to him, sure other defenders can get an early jump to give help, but with Callaway's speed, it's too late.

He gone!

I though QD missed as many crossing routes as JD. Few were thrown in stride.

Yeah, the gif kinda summed it up for me after those opening posts. Pity the thread didn't remain left field weird...

Did you graduate in 1979? What took you to Florida?

I said as much about JG (in the JG thread) as well as Kongbo when people wanted him kicked off the team last year. Its stupid to jump on kids about stuff like that.

As for being engaged, they can say he was all day long. People know what they saw.

For Herby, he is a commentator. He has to have something to take about. I hate that he brought attention to a kid. I wish our play on the field would have given him something to talk about at the time, but it wasnt.

Just trying to help a Vol brother out.

If you didn't think your mechanic could fix your car, would you keep taking your car back.

Or would you tell them to find a new mechanic?

It sounds like you are satisfied with having a coach that you don't think can get us a NC.

As for me. I am satisfied with having a coach that I think will get us a NC. I think CBJ will coach our football program to the heights Pat coached the Lady Vols Basketball Program.

A mechanic does one thing, so the analogy doesnt work. The more appropriate analogy would be a shop manager. The manager has improved the shop performance, brought in better parts for cars etc. He just hasnt been able to but it together yet. However, your due to the investment in him, you give him a little more time to see if he can work it out. But you lack confidence that he will. You may provide more oversite or something during that time.

Also keep in mind, the opinion comes from a person that has absolutely no say in the process.
