With the NIL and the transfer portal - It’s good to see that Tennessee is Back on the winning side of things….. No more Fooley; Botch Jones; or Scruitt…..

Nobody could expect 11 wins this year, but at least Heupel has us on the PLUS side!

Just look at Arkansas, Florida, and Texas A&M (And several other SEC schools)…

If I was a high school recruit - I would pick Tennessee over any of those programs in their current state!

Course, we still have a ways to go to match up with UGA & BAMA…..

I am afraid that is about to change. Their new coach has built a good football team at Duke with no where near the talent TA&M has.
Maybe... I think a lot of the reason for brief success at lower tier programs is all about respect. Missouri does well because they are "just" Missouri. Vandy sneaks up on people because they are a doormat. Kentucky is still "just" Kentucky. Our issues have been that even when we suck, we are still respected. He may do well at Tx A&M, but they are respected and Duke will always be "just" Duke.

For the most talented recruits, the only question is how do I get to the NFL by the quickest route?

For most recruits it boils down to 2 things:
1) playing time in year 1 or 2
2) specific skill development

Not anymore. I’d say they’re looking for $$ first and foremost. It’s become the single most important factor. Then would be getting to the league. That can happen though early playing time but it can also happen by going to a team currently on top and knowing they have as good of chance at the playoffs there as they would at any other school. The pitch that Kirby and saban give is all about winning the natty and being a part of the best team leads to the nfl. That doesn’t always mean early playing time.

I have to disagree slightly. We beat Bama last year and had them beat at their place this year. Only the refs saved them in that game. We are closer to them than you think. Only BVS keeps us in the other mentality.

Is there a wrong time to be winning?

The key is "who" we beat. Abusing UConn and Vandy isn't helping recruiting. Beating Alabama and Clemson is gold start certified. This year, we don't have a single gold star win. We better have a deep pocket book this year. I honestly am less concerned with high school recruiting any more. These kids come in and can frequently end up as busts. I would rather see guys who were stand outs at smaller colleges and even bigger schools who are looking for higher profile opportunities. That kid from Mizzou abused us for 4 quarters. He was a nobody coming out of high school. Sure, pursue the top high school players, but why chase a 2 or 3 star player in high school? The same effort and energy could be spent chasing a proven college player.

Sometimes even in a loss a recruit can be swayed by being told how badly they will be needed. Also the atmosphere of the stadium helps quite a bit.
