Vols Wednesday Practice: Florida week

Sometimes I don't understand this fan base. Peterson was at Gruden level hype until he got here and now he's an out of shape scrub without the attitude to play "big boy football" all because of 10 seconds of practice film.

Some of you guys need to get a grip on reality.

You read way too much into my post.

He looks hurt and shy of contact. It was noticeable compared to everyone else. I have never posted anything about him be a savior nor do I even think he contributes this year.

Everyone with a pair of eyes can see he is out of shape, hurt (shoulder), and shy of contact.

I am hoping that all changes. For him and the team.

I swear people just hawk this board looking to jump on someone or nitpick or b$&@ and moan.

Fingers posted a video. I commented on my impressions. How about having a conversation about it instead of assuming something? You may want to check the mirror on who needs to get a grip

Peterson’s turn away from contact and then seemingly shoulder hurting were both concerning in different ways. He has a lot to make up and out of shape but hope he has the attitude for big boy football and to work hard.
In fairness Kirkland was supposed to put his helmet on the inside of Peterson's chest area..... Yet he hit him with his helmet in the upper portion of his arm. I'm sure he got a small stinger. It happens. Kirkland hit him pretty hard.

I thought I saw Peterson turn away first. Been an hour or so. Will rewatch. You may be right.

Yeah I watched it again and Bates right before him goes at the “tackler,” whereas looks like Peterson turns early.

May all have been protective as mentioned and in fairness to JJ he is about 2 weeks in and recovering injury.

Just certainly stood out compared to the rest.

I just rewatched it. Kirkland put his helmet right on Peterson's right shoulder just below the shoulder pad.

Looking at the same thing and seeing it different I think. No big deal

Well now I watch it a third time almost looks like JJ is pissed after the shoulder stinger rather than defeated/down/unmotivated as I first thought.

Maybe those guys were right. Trying to read too much into 10 seconds. But hey, that is all we get, and probably will get of him for a while since he prob won’t play much soon.

He does still look hurt and off some though compared to the rest

All the other players put their helmets on the inside across the body like you are supposed to. When tackling you get your helmet to/through the ball. Kirkland did the drill wrong. But you are right it's no big deal.

People saying Peterson is shy of contact is funny to me though. If you've seen his hand drills he is very explosive and powerful.

Ah I have been out of country on a medical mission trip for over a week. Haven’t seen much else of JJ.

I just thought all the other guys ran head first at each other to do square up tackling drills and those guys both didn’t come in square. And then JJ looked down/upset or, later, pissed

Yeah I would assume JJ gets Kirkland a lot in practice and knew it was going to happen. I assume it's happened more then once. Probably why he looked angry.

Edit: As a freshman you just take it and keep on trucking though.

Hahaha. Never thought of it that way.

Think DKJr hazing the new guy any or just the way he does things?

Kind of funny. Think DKJr hazing the new guy any or just the way he does things?

I think there is always a little hazing (be it just harder practicing against certain guys) in football especially for younger guys.

In this case I doubt it was hazing. I think they just do this drill every single day and JJ knew what was probably going to happen.

Looked to me like JJ turned at the last minute which was why he got tagged in the arm instead of the chest.

Ah. And was worried about the upcoming stinger/pressure on shoulder?

Kind of like being ginger on cuts after a knee injury. Gotchya. From that/your perspective makes sense to interpret it that way and I can see it from that angle

That’s the way I saw it too rather than DKJr angle.

But maybe it was both and JJ was turning to protect himself due to previous injury, like a reflex, and didn’t work out?

Sorry if I took your post out of context. It wasn't my intention to call you out personally, but I can see how it could come off that way.

I guess my point was the general blasé attitude that I've seen on his board since the WVU game.

Yeah, I'm disappointed with the way that game turned out. However, I'm not going to let that cloud the progress that I've seen over the past couple of weeks. I feel that some of the posters here look at every possible negative angle and disregard the positives.

There are so many positive changes in this program, in less than a year, than I saw in multiple years with the former staff. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that sees them. Heck, sometimes I feel like I'm on another team's board watching them talk about us.

Where's the passion for UT football? Where are the crazy posts about how we're going to stomp the Gators into the ground? Our fans need to get back into believing in our team and let the past be the past.

It's frustrating for me as a fan who wants to see this program turned around as much as anyone else.

Anyway. Sorry for the diatribe.

Go VOLS!

All practice footage I've seen of Kirkland he is pretty violent to his teammates so yeah lol JJ probably knew it was going to hurt a little.

It's just a result of what we have been through. every time the fans have thought the waiting was coming to an end, it's been time to start the rebuild again.
If Pruitt can head coach anywhere near as well as he coaches defensively, we will win.
And if the winning starts, the passion will be everywhere.

Awesome man. I agree 100% with your post.

I have seen the progress too. Just not the consistency in yet.

Anyway. What I mean is I was not trying to bash JJ in anyway and my “big boy” comment was probably the wrong choice of words. It just looked different from everyone else’s drills and I was scared an injury or him being scared of reaggravating an injury was going to get him down or put him behind when he already is.

And man. I’ll be honest. I’ll be at the game this weekend but have been nervous all week. Have no idea how we are going to perform and if the progress keeps up. Been trying to analyze if rain or another lightning delay takes the crowd out of the game and hoses us etc.

But the closer we get the more pumped I get and going to leave that place and not be able to talk for days from screaming. That Admiral Schofield video put me over the edge!!

I agree with you brother and we are defintely on the same team.

Go Vols!!

From a two minute video. Lol

Being serious here. What else am I or any of us supposed to make points about from this practice? This is all we have. Plus a few comments from media...that saw the same thing.

If you have a couple more hours of practice video then quit holding out.

I saw the exact same thing watching Peterson. He really looked like that little hit hurt his shoulder. I really doubt we get very much from him this year. He did look out of shape too.

The only thing I saw that stood out was a nice rack bouncing across the lawn!

I think JJ doesn't have the fundamentals of the drill down yet. Next time he will hit opposing player at the right angle for sure.
