Vols vs vandy.

The Vandy game was very big when I stared watching their games in 1945. Vandy could not keep up when black athletes started playing football in the SEC. The next big stept was when th SEC network made so much momey available to all SEC schools and Vandy had the resources needed to compete. It is Tennessee's responsibility to field football teams better than Vandy's which will again be the norm starting in 2019.

It’s a complete embarrassment that they are now a rival. And one who has beaten our ass a lot lately.

I'd agree but the only reason Mason is still their is because he has beaten the vols. It also doesn't help his team that the requirements to get into that school are high. In short the football players that are on Bama level had better be smart enough to be doctors and well that's why vandy will never be a great team.

No one is saying Vandy will ever be a great team, but they are getting better. By the way, there athletics are held to the same standards as other SEC types. Their playing field is never going to be "SEC" that is unless the find a way to play "downtown". But you must admit a kid might rather play in Nashville as some other SEC "towns".

It is a sad state of the program when we have to tout the/a rivalry against Vandy instead of Bama, Fla, Ga, etc and comment about that game!

When the two V's meet again this fall, it's the "one who emerges with the biggest V" that will be declared the winner of the State of Tennessee.

I'm down with a big V trophy. Half orang and white and half black and gold. That be cool be big enough to have past years and scores engraved on it and still leave room for more.

I made this thread for the simple reason that other schools have a trophy for their opponent during rivalry week. Since we don't have one I would like for us to have one. Most people in here don't view it as a rival game but that's not what it's about they are the last game of the season and we will always play them and the honor for best college football team in the state of Tennessee. Anything else besides that isn't part of thread. Just give ideas of what kinda trophy and or name of the game like how the two Mississippi teams have the egg bowl and Bama vs Auburn has the iron bowl etc...

I understand what’s gone on the last few years. I do. But, the difference is that in almost all cases, winning rivalry week makes a season.

Michigan was 10-1 and all were happy. Then, they lost to Ohio State and a great season ending at 10-2 turned into a big turd real quick.

Beating Vanderbilt for Tennessee is about avoiding embarrassment not accomplishing something. Or, put differently, Tennessee coaches get fired for losing to Vandy. They don’t get raises for beating Vandy.

The game is not worthy of a trophy

I get why we don't see them as a rivalry, because they simply don't win enough. But people don't seem to realize that in my lifetime (43) Vandy has beaten us the exact same number of times (7) that we have beaten Florida. We can make all kinds of excuses about that, but it is a fact.

Great! What's that got to do with naming the game between us and Vandy and giving a trophy to the winner? I mean, we don't name or award a trophy for the Florida game either.

Because people have been arguing Vandy doesn't win enough and therefore they aren't a rivalry that would warrant a "named" game. Perhaps we don't have a trophy for the Florida game for the exact same reason?
