Vols vs UF Line

The last time the Gators were 17 point favorites it worked out pretty well for us.

The ACTUAL VEGAS LINE opened at 27 and has dropped to 25. This was discussed in a thread last week.
Tenn over WK by 30
Tenn over UCLA by 5
I think Vols cover both of those fairly easily.

Fla- Charleston has not shown up on any REAL book sites I've seen. CS is not D.1----and betting lines aren't normally made on these games--(Major colleges vs High Schools).

The 1916 Cumberland vs. Georgia Tech football game was a college football game played on October 7, 1916, between the Georgia Tech Engineers and the Cumberland College Bulldogs. The game became the most lopsided game in the history of college football, as Georgia Tech was victorious 222–0.

Cumberland University hung 222 on GT!

If I was in college in 1916 at Cumberland, I could have made that team. They fielded a team because GT wouldn't allow them out of the game, even though they didn't have a football program in existence.

Here is a couple of interesting games I saw from opening weekend:

WKU (44) over/under
TENN -30

GA
OK St -6

LA Tech
Auburn -12

VA Tech
Bama -7

The gators game should be published the week of the game as an add-on.

Meant to say Gt hung 222 on Cumberland.

Never have known much about the specifics of the that game, but have always heard about it.

I see the UT Florida line settling in at around 20 points or so. I doubt it stays as high as 25.

Well yeah. Cumberland had a team, but they disbanded. GT already had them on their schedule and held them to the contract.
From what I've read about it, they either had 1 play for positive yards or no plays for positive yards. Neither team had a first down.

I was wrong, they actually completed 2 more passes than Tech. Tech had 1650 yards, all rushing.
Maybe Paul Johnson was the secret coach then too.

That is not how they make their lines.

The books don't make the lines based on what Sagarin says.

However, that number does fall in line with what I said I think the line will be etc... -24 with them thinking it should be -17ish and adding on a td to make the public pay a premium price.

If it does open at -17 (which I doubt it will be that low) I will get on FLA and hope the line sky rockets.

Check the Sagarin predictor against the initial lines and they are usually right on the money, no pun intended. It may not be the formula used but its the same concept. All lines are done by computer models and may be tweaked a bit here and there based on hype.

I would take charleston southern with the 73 points.

Finding a book to take the action is the hard part. Most books don't accept BCS v. FCS games.

As to the UF-UT line. Its early and all it represents is the public's perception of the game. It does not represent what anyone who knows anything believes. It is simply the number that will entice the public to wager equally on each team. In this case when the line came out everyone bet UT heavy so the line has fallen a bit.

The 73 is bordering on insane. Bookies would get their clock cleaned posting numbers like that. UF may cover, but 9 out of 10 times that number will not get covered and the public would take the points.

The sagarin (sp) number represents, based upon computer modeling, what should occur. His numbers tend to be more accurate towards the middle of the season. But as we know its not a round ball and it can bounce in any direction.

I think I remember one of the first TN-Vandy games where TN had scored so many TDs that they felt sorry for Vandy and simply walked off the field. 3 plays later, Vandy scored.

one of the talking heads on SportSouth last night said that if the Gators don't beat the vols by over 21 points he is going to eat his shoe on the show.

i'd rather see it go into the other end but still could be amusing if we somehow manage to lose by only 17 or so.
