Danny Sheridan of USA Today installed Florida as a 73-point favorite against Charleston Southern on Sept. 5.

You read that right, 73 points.

I wonder what the line on our game with them will be?

I'ts really too early to say since a lot of it will be determined by what happens in the weeks leading up to the game, but I will take a guess

FLA -24 opening line

FLA -27 or -28 closing line

I would take charleston southern with the 73 points.

So, there might be some novelty in Sheridan putting Florida as a 73-point favorite on opening day, but that's about all it is, a novelty.

Here is a list of the times that Florida has won by 73 points or more:

Nov. 4, 1912: Florida 78, College of Charleston 0

Oct. 6, 1913: Florida 144, Florida Southern 0

Oct. 4, 1924: Florida 77, Rollins 0

Oct. 20, 1928: Florida 73, Mercer 0

Sept. 6, 1997: Florida 82, Central Michigan 6

I think I would take the points as well

its not ridiculous. they whooped Western Carolina 2 years ago 62-0. Charleston Southern wont even score a point on UFs second string defense. CUM is also a d-bag. he will put up 70 for good measure and quite easily. ill take those points.

I don't think we will even have a clue until after the UCLA game. If we blow out UCLA and WKU, it will likely be FL+10....if we play close to UCLA and only win by less than 7 then it will likely by FL by 20+. Of course if we lose to UCLA...then FL by 72....

73 points is absolutely ridiculous. Any Div. I team that is favored by that many points should be forced to change their schedule and play someone else.

The books will probably add on 7pts to the opening number because of the public perception. Remember, Urban is going to get revenge on Kiffin and hang 100 on us. That is what everyone in the country believes and the books will inflate the price to play Florida accordingly.

The number is not what they think they will win by, but the number they believe will get them close to even money on both sides of the bet.

If it opens at FLA -24 they really think it should be FLA -17 to -20 or so.

The value will more than likely be with the Vols regardless of what the line is because of this.

If you do want the Vols then wait until game day or right before kickoff even to get the best price. The public will be all over the gators and the line should go up accordingly. Of course, if you want the Gators you should get on them when the line opens.

This may be a game to shoot for a middle by getting on FLA early then buying back on the Vols when the public drives the line up. You basically either come close to breaking even (lose vig on one side of bet) or double up by winning both sides when the final lands between both numbers.

You don't have to guess any more.

The Sagarin pre-season rankings are out.

If UT-Fla played right now in the Swamp line would be 17.5

The oddsmakers pondered, "Well we gotta consider the Florida coach question: Is he a more of a gracious gentleman who values sportsmanship, or is he more towards the pompous, integrity-challenged, smirking sack of crap side of the spectrum?

... Right, we'll put him down for a 73-point spread."

That is not how they make their lines.

The books don't make the lines based on what Sagarin says.

However, that number does fall in line with what I said I think the line will be etc... -24 with them thinking it should be -17ish and adding on a td to make the public pay a premium price.

If it does open at -17 (which I doubt it will be that low) I will get on FLA and hope the line sky rockets.

You can bet this game right now on sportsbook....

Florida is -24 over the Vols...other games of note:

We are -30 over W Kentucky
and -6 against UCLA
+ 4 against georgia
+ 12 against BAMA

again, these are current lines that you can place action on now.
