Tennessee.

I grew up in Henderson and my brother and his family live in Jackson now.
My family, mom's side, is from Trenton. Was just there a couple weeks ago for my grandfather's funeral.... a week or so after the tornado went through.

My dad grew up in Trenton. On High Street just down from the the old Peabody HS.
yup, my mom's house was on Lombardy, at the corner of Stadium. Also just down from Peabody... Love the separate entrances for "Boys" and "Girls". I heard they turned the school into some pseudo-upscale lofts or something. Love that little town, almost like time stood still.

31 mph.

I wouldn't refer to anything in Trenton as "upscale". 31 is still the town's speed limit.

That town has been stuck on pause since Brown Shoe Co. closed. No industry=dying town.

hence the preceding "pseudo".

and yes it seems like quite a bit of our small towns will continue to die down as we wal-mart America.

Tennessee vs American U...Does anyone remember the first and ONLY time We played American U?...I do, I remember it like it was yesterday...1981 first round of the old volunteer classic at stokley..Was a fantastic game from start to finish, AU was quite talented that year and they beat Georgetown at the beginning of the year with a big ole center by the name of Patrick Ewing...Ever heard of him?..Ehh..Anyways...American had the lead and UT had the ball with 10 seconds left in the game...Dale Ellis missed a jumper from the corner and American rebounded and had the ball knocked away from them out of bounds with 2 seconds left holding a 51-50 lead...American threw the ball long and Gary Carter intercepted it and launched one from just beyond half court...BOTTOM!!!!..And UT escaped a major upset...What a thriller of a game that was...I will never forget that as long as I live..I was at the game and my heart was beating so fast I couldn't leave lmao...Gary Williams who is the coach at Maryland was Americans coach at the time

i remember that game with a little less fondness then you do. AU had really talented teams back then and were perenial contenders in the old ECC conference. the 81-82 AU team made it to the NIT (before the NCAA expanded to 64 teams) that year after losing the conference tournament final to drexel in OT. gary williams did a good job of recruiting the east coast, expecially new jersey and the washington/baltimore area. sadly, the leaving of williams for maryland and the ascendency of georgetown really hurt AU's ability to attract good talent.

your memory is pretty good regarding that game, but i think the final score was 59-58 in UT's favor and it was the following year (december of 1982), that AU upset georgetown and patrick ewing.

i can only hope that this years game is as exciting as that first meeting, only with a slightly different outcome.

If you live within the borders of Tennessee, I would think the state affiliates would override any changes of games. I would expect for UT to be televised until the final horn. I hope they blow out American and begin their statement to the NCAA.

Don't know how many cable systems have it this way but during the tournament last year Cox cable in VA had 4 seperate channels with all the games running at the same time. Thus making the main feed cutting to different games irrelevant, however you do lose the HD feed.

Hey Pasadena Eagle and thanks for posting and reviving my memory...You are correct about the score...the first thing to go when you get older is your memory LOL..I remember you guys had a super point guard...Gordon Austin?..I think was his name..Great player, Very smart on the court and a real general out there..I can't for the life of me remember the forward you had..He was fantastic...Anyways, goodluck this week..I hope it's not as intense as the last meeting LOL

Can someone give me the scouting report on Tennessee's next 3 potential opponents? American, Butler, Louisville, and how UT matches up.

Thanks

I was 8 years old and at the game with my parents...It was the first game I ever attended and had far and away the best ending...There were actually three seconds left in the game and the final score was 59-58 after Carter's miracle....Tennessee beat California the next night and American lost badly to Wyoming (they really weren't that good)....Gary Carter was declared academically ineligible a month later as was Ed Littleton...Carter was in and out of jail much of his life after college.....That '82 team could have been alot better.
