Vols up to #17

If everything goes as Vegas predicts, we'll be in the Sugar Bowl.

1. We should beat Vandy.
2. Alabama should beat Auburn.
3. Florida State should beat Florida.
4. Alabama should beat Florida.

We're 4 results away from the Sugar Bowl.

It seems like a no-brainer, but I won't lean on Vegas or "should happen" for anything anymore.

A&M could. If we play sloppy against Vandy, and it costs us spots in the polls even with a win (like, maybe, down to 19 or 20), A&M could surge past us with a decisive win over LSU. Florida just went up 8 spots with a win over LSU; A&M could do something similar.

So don't count them out entirely. Not yet.

Unless the game goes into overtime, UT isn't going to be penalized for beating Vanderbilt. They might not move up, but they wouldn't drop 2-3 places for it either.

And UF rose 8 spots because it was a win over a then ranked #16 team plus a bump from it solidifying their chance to play for the SEC's Championship.

Yes, two of the non-SEC ranked teams below UT are expected to lose, but an unranked 3-loss A&M isn't going to suddenly jump up 9-10 spots just because they win against an already unranked 4-loss LSU. Unless A&M smokes LSU by something like 50-60 points, that's just not realistic.

And in all honesty, one could argue more about it possibly being more in UT's interests for LSU not to have any slight chance of getting back into the rankings because it could serve as a buffer for how UF fell after an SEC Championship loss (presuming they beat FSU this week)...but that's another topic.

But it wasn't because LSU was the school UF beat, it was what the win meant and they beat a ranked team.

IF we go to the Citrus Bowl -- Thats who I hope we play

That likely won't be possible. With how high the 3 Big 10 East teams are, it's likely that whichever one doesn't get into the Rose (and CFP) is still going to be ranked high enough that it's going to get into the Orange Bowl (the Orange Bowl's selection to play the highest ranked ACC team available is whichever Big 10 or SEC team is highest in the rankings after the CFP, Sugar, and Rose Bowls have all picked their teams).

By the conference contracts with the bowl, in years when the Orange Bowl takes a Big 10 team, the Citrus Bowl becomes an SEC vs ACC matchup instead (automatically).

We need to win by 14-20 Saturday. I feel like unless you're in the 8-10 with an outside shot at the back end of the top 4 style points don't really matter but it's rivalry week so might as well pour it on if the opportunity presents itself.

We don't need to be top 10 to get to the Sugar bowl..we need AU to lose,Florida to lose and us win and we are the 2nd highest ranked SEC team and we are Sugar bowl bound. Not gonna lie the Vandy game in Nashvegas makes me nervous. Their D is no joke and are playing really good offensively too..we are in trouble if they start moving the ball on us.

It probably helps us more that UF lose to both FSU and Alabama. The past two seasons of the CFP rankings, both Missouri's and Florida's losses in the SEC Championship only resulted in the committee dropping each team down 1 space or less in the CFP rankings (10-2 Missouri stayed at #16 after losing to Alabama 42-13; 10-2 Florida only fell from #18 to #19 after losing to Alabama 29-15).

Why would LSU move from unranked to ahead of us? They have 4 losses and we would have 3. If we lose to Vandy then we don't deserve it.

Not sure if they are saying that LSU would jump us. The way I took it is that an LSU loss would diminish Florida's big win over them (which just rocketed UF up 8 spots). The thought is that aTm will not rise 10 points in any scenario to overtake us if we beat Vandy.

If we lose to Vandy, history shows that they will throw the book at us (as they should in this case). We would fall to the bottom of the 8-4 SEC teams at that point in the AP and Coaches polls. There are likely to be 6 8-4 SEC teams so that would be quite a plummet in the pecking order. I don't think most realize that this Vandy game is actually one of the biggest games that UT has had in years as far as what is on the line

What if Florida beats FSU and Bama, Auburn beats Bama, we would be the 4th ranked team in the SEC AND the SEC would be out if the Playoffs!

Music city bowl#%@^#&#*#

If this happened I would be more interested in the police search for the person who blew up the Bama buses with their 1st and 2nd string on it.

Florida seems to always be able to play well when it matters. No way they should have beaten LSU.

That's more on LSU than UF playing well. Coach O choked in his on field interview. If you did not know better, you'd have sworn that was Les Miles being stubborn and running his offense.
