Vols are #26.

With respect to Wake Forest, anyone ranking them in the Top 25 now that their quarterback is out of commission does not deserve a vote going forward.

Vols will probably jump to #24 after week one, setting up a ranked matchup with Pitt provided they don't lose the Backyard Brawl. Win in Pittsburgh and the Vols should be Top 15 heading into the Florida game.

Can someone please explain the Ole Miss love to me? I don’t get it. Also, do people really think Arkansas is that much better than us? They play in a tougher division and also have a very difficult OOC schedule. What about them is so great? I’m starting to think that voters really like Sam Pittman as a person and that influences their votes.

Bingo. You have hit on two programs that are getting votes because the media admires the coaches, and belated votes for their success last year. Add Kentucky to that list as well.

The only time I think about Notre Dame is when these polls come out. And then, like clockwork, they fall into irrelevance.

I think they get the benefit of the doubt because they're Notre Dame, but I wouldn't exactly call them irrelevant.

In the last 10 years

2012: started unranked, finished in the national title game
2013: started 14, finished 20
2014: started 17, finished unranked

2015: started 11, finished 11
2016: started 10, finished unranked
2017: started unranked, finished 11
2018: started 12, finished 5
2019: started 9, finished 12
2020: started 10, finished in the playoff
2021: started 9, finished 8

I would offer Texas or USC as better examples of programs that always get a Top 25 nod and fall into "irrelevance." Even Michigan as an example of a program that starts 6-0 or highly ranked and falls off.

I get UK a little more. They can sleepwalk to 6 wins with their weak schedule.

I’ll add UT being unranked in football to rest of my list I don’t care about. We need to shut the haters up with wins on the field. UT hasn’t been very good at that lately so UT gets no respect from ESPN, coaches, AP, and all others that produce a top 25 list.
