I thought this might be the game when we got to see more of Kahlil
Vols defensive line coach Steve Stripling said after Tuesday's practice that highly touted true freshmen defensive tackles Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle seem ready to play in any situation, and that they have as good a chance as anyone of getting reps inside going forward.
"I think Kahlil and Shy have worked themselves into a situation where they can play in critical situations, Stripling said. Theyre in the rotation.
Stripling said he, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and Vols defensive coordinator John Jancek are in agreement that a rotation of 10 defensive linemen five tackles and five ends will get looks to play in Saturdays game at Arkansas, and that the most productive of the bunch will be the four on the field with the game on the line.
Really, right now, were playing five tackles and five ends. Were playing 10, Stripling said. At this point, our motto this week is 'every play is a fourth-and-1. This game's a fourth-and-1, so the guys that are producing on the field are the guys that are gonna play. We have a pool of 10 that are all gonna be in there.
