I thought this might be the game when we got to see more of Kahlil

Vols defensive line coach Steve Stripling said after Tuesday's practice that highly touted true freshmen defensive tackles Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle seem ready to play in any situation, and that they have as good a chance as anyone of getting reps inside going forward.

"I think Kahlil and Shy have worked themselves into a situation where they can play in critical situations,” Stripling said. “They’re in the rotation.”

Stripling said he, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones and Vols defensive coordinator John Jancek are in agreement that a rotation of 10 defensive linemen — five tackles and five ends — will get looks to play in Saturday’s game at Arkansas, and that the most productive of the bunch will be the four on the field with the game on the line.

“Really, right now, we’re playing five tackles and five ends. We’re playing 10,” Stripling said. “At this point, our motto this week is 'every play is a fourth-and-1.’ This game's a fourth-and-1, so the guys that are producing on the field are the guys that are gonna play. We have a pool of 10 that are all gonna be in there.

Question for those that follow the draft more than I do:

Do DTs declare after the JR year as often as DEs?

What has McKenzie done to date? He's gassed after 2-3 snaps. He has promise, but I don't expect much from him this season.

I agree, he's got a ways to go from a stamina standpoint. He's also not getting as much push as I thought he would either.

I know they are highly sought after..lets see Clowney, Dorsey, McCullers, McDaniel...did Haynesworth leave early?

Our defensive line is in good shape for the future...nice depth.

actually i wished them 2 could have been red shirted there freshmen year and till CBJ can get great player like these 2 and have em sit for a year, the depth will be short, but CBJ is headed in the right direction

Would have benefited greatly by being a early enrollee..Should see a significant difference next year as he slims down.. Could see him 325 next year vs north of 350. I don't believe for a second that he is 327...

If they are as good as advertised, no need to redshirt them because they will not be here for a 5th year. Might as well get them some early game experience.

that is true, but on a SEC talented laden team, they would be red shirted.unless they could take the position, which doesn't happen a lot with the better teams
