Vols Top Ten Passes of 2015

Nailed it. I just watched a Leonard Fournette highlight video followed immediately by a Jalen Hurd highlight film.

The most OBVIOUS difference between the 2 backs is the opportunities (running lanes) they each had. Watch the aforementioned videos and keep an eye on their runs from their stance to the line of scrimmage. Fournette is almost ALWAYS at top speed by the time he reaches the LOS because he rarely has to make a cut, where Hurd is typically dancing in the backfield to avoid a defender or 2 before he can take off.

Fournette has many more runs of 20+ yards because he only has to run straight and he is not touched many times. Hurd's runs of 20+ are a completely different story. Almost every yard he gained was earned by himself. He had to fight for his yards.

That said, after watching the 2 videos back-to-back, I believe Jalen is BETTER than Fournette. I honestly don't think Fournette runs as hard and with as much determination. If their lines were reversed, Hurds numbers would be better.

And the only time I saw Hurd get open lanes and a full head of steam was against Northwestern in the bowl game from those pro style sets.

And we all saw how he looked.

I personally wouldn't trade Hurd for any RB in college football.

They couldn't find 10 GREAT passes from Dobbs...so they HAD to add 2 from Dormady, one from Kamara...and an actual lead-in-stride rope from Jennings to Dobbs against Florida.

Meanwhile...guys have to slide and contort their bodies to catch Dobbs "greatest passes'...'cept for the 1 to Malone and the 1 to PW...

I didn't HAVE to add 2 from Dormady. Even though it was only WCU, I was impressed with the way Dormady avoided the sack, bought himself more time by scrambling out of the pocket, and then he fired a strike to PW in the endzone. The second one I included because that is what we're going to be seeing with Team 121 many times . So, I thought those two were good enough to make the Top 10.

This isn't a "10 best throws/passes" video. It is the top ten pass plays. That takes into account game situation, run after the catch, and overall excitement. Not the prettiest, most technically sound passes of the year.

Now this comment is what I based this video off of. If anyone would like me to, I can go back through the highlight clips I have saved from this past year and find the best throws that Dobbs made. Because he did have some very nice throws that weren't included in the video simply because I chose to make the video more like the quote above instead of a video based around Dobbs' best throws.

ok, i finally watched the video.

i'd like to compare 119's top 10, to 120's top ten when it's all said and done.

i think 120 should be able to beat 119 in that department...handily.

Great, great job with the videos though. Keep them coming. I don't have the patience or talent to do something like this myself.

Getting excited about that QD-PW combo.

As am I. I may be in the minority but think QD starts his last 2 years and plays really well. Obviously not Dobb's mobility but more than makes up for it with accuracy and arm strength.

One thing that stands out...only a couple of these throws hit anyone in-stride (and frankly Dormady has 1 or 2 that are nice throws)...the REST...are GREAT catches...(and I STILL think josh Smith was NOT the intended target for the #1 throw against Georgia...he just went up and GOT it!

Bring it on D4H...but, I hope your Idol REALLY improves before September 1st!

J. Smith was definitely the intended target on that miraculous play against UGA. Greg McElroy and Dobbs were going over it on the SEC Network's Summer Tour. When you look at it in-depth it was actually a very well placed pass.
