Vols Toe the Line

Take that Vol423!!!!! :)

That article sure put me in my place. It's too bad we can't just have local UT sportswriters determine how good our team is rather than actually having to step on the field and play our opponents. Fulmer himself prognosticated that our offensive line going into the 2005 season could be the best offensive line that UT had every fielded, so what the hell do they know.

You crack me up. You act like a local sportswriter claiming the offensive line is going to be improved just like Seth thinks that posting blogs written by Cal students concluding that the PAC-10 is the best conference in the nation means anything.

Fact is that it doesn't matter what is said in the newspapers or radio or online articles or message boards. It matters what is being done in the weight rooms and practice fields. They say they are working extremely hard, then again, they are saying that. They have to prove it on the field.

All this is nothing but hype. Put the players in their unis, put them on the field against somebody...then we will know.

Exactly, we here this every summer. Fall is when the rubber meets the road.

If, in fact, our o-line has made significant improvement then we could have a good year.

just the games started this year compared to last stat does make me feel a little better...but i agree. prove it on the field.

...but who cares if you started in a game in which you got manhandled? Take the Florida game for instance.

well they're more experienced now than they were for the florida game so that has to count for something. We couldn't have been completely manhandled...we lost by one point to a great defense. Nevertheless, I think our running game will be back to traditional Tennessee running game. At least I hope:p

I haven't seen an offensive line get dominated like that since we played Auburn in 2003.

We did get dominated. But....

1. UF lost an amazing amount of talent from that defense.
2. It is possible to improve over a season/offseason. McNeil was a first year starter. Young was a first year starter. Parker was a first year starter. Ligon was garbage. Not to mention we were breaking in a new OL coach.

Like I said, it sucked, but UF did that to alot of teams last year. I seriously doubt we play any kind of defense like that this year, unless we meet LSU in the SECCG.

You guys are kinda hurtin my optimism here. Yea it was a pretty terrible offensive line. But it's a new year, and to be honest I'm alot more excited about this year than I was about last year.

Supposedly, Foster and Parker have lost quite a bit of weight. McNeil has gained weight. McClendon broke the bench record. Young and Foster have supposedly taken big leadership roles. Scott and Johnson are really battling for a spot. Richard looks like a 300 lb body builder. Sounds like this OL could have alot of potential. Of course, that is what it sounds like. All of this speculation means nothing.

Im kinda confused here. You mean to say the VOLS cant improve from year to year? and last years game means something when we start the new season?

...and it's the same kind of stuff that we hear every year at this time.

I'm not saying we can't improve, but there's no sense in denying that Florida toyed with our OL last season. That performance was abyssmal. If that type of football becomes even moderately acceptable, UT will start to resemble UK.

they got manhandled in the rushing game...not the pass

That's why Ainge threw two INTs and had two intentional grounding penalties. Ainge was running for his life the entire game. That's why we ran the ball so much in the second half, because Ainge was in legitimate danger.

To be fair, the 2 ints had nothing to do with pressure. The first was a designed play on the first play of the game. And the 2nd was a desperation heave for a first down.
