Vols to renew series with Memphis in 2018

historically UT has played us well...that said, we've won three straight and without Cal/Pearl the whole rivalry feels a little forced...but if it generates fan interest, OK.

I think that it's pretty safe to say that there is not a "gulf" of difference between the two programs. When TN had their best coach, the NCAAT was only taking one team per conference (usually Rupp's) and when Mears received invitations the field was not seeded. Those teams had some very unfortunate draws... not a single easy opponent. The SEC is far from hot garbage... every member has been to the Sweet 16 and half have been to the FF. All but two to the EE.

Thunder, to put it in perspective, Tennessee has been in the SEC since 1933, the most respected athletic conference in all of college basketball.

For the majority of the glory days of Memphis State basketball, their conference's game of the week was sponsored by MD 2020 (Oh,Oh so fine!). Some of you on this board, well, probably most of you know it better as Mad Dog 2020.

The Higgins shot is probably the only one on YouTube. I remember it leaving his hands at just a hair longer (5 +/- feet) than half court along the far sideline.

I can't believe Carter's isn't out there on video since WATE had it in their news opening. I remember him around half court as the ball left the inbounder's hands, he intercepted the ball a step inside of half court, and then he took one dribble before launching it about 5-10 feet inside of half court line just offset toward the left side (when facing the basket... far side from the benches).

I can't remember if TN was behind or tied when Higgins beat GA Tech. Seems like TN trailed. TN was definitely down 1 versus American. It was a more unlikely gift than the Stoerner fumble.

Pretty sure we were trailing when the Higgins shot happened. I had the game written off.

"SEC since 1933, the most respected athletic conference in all of college basketball"

Try to get some help for these delusions you are having-SEC is usually no higher than 5th in Conference RPI and even that is because of KY.

14-11 is not a huge lead in a series.

The following is a huge difference:

Sweet 16s. Mem. 11. UT. 5
Elite 8s. 6. 1
Final 4s. 3. 0
Championship games 2. 0

FYP. If it's vacated, it doesn't count.

Go to ESPN, CBS Sports, all the major websites-it's still there-you can't make seasons disappear as much as the NCAA would like with thier discriminatory enforecement.

They found that Darrell Arthur (played on Kansas 2008 NC team that beat Memphis and later played for the Grizz of all teams) had his high school grades changed to get into Kansas-did they vacate KS national championship?-NO. And that was a PROVEN major infraction as opposed to the DRose situation.

Just like Louisville and North Carolina now as opposed to the too harsh penalty on Pearl-surprised they didn't vacate his NCAA wins. Surely you guys don't believe the NCAA is a viable governing body with it bias towards certain schools.

You forgot the asterisk.

Tennessee was definitely down when Higgins hit. Why else would he have chucked up a long-distance shot at the buzzer?

Get. Over. It.

He's also posting the lie that TN has 5x S16s. Tiger High produces chronic liars.

You're the liar-list the year other than the four Pearl got and 2000. Also, post the bracket so we can SEE YOUR LIE-where the tourney is not seeded and TN is put into top 16 by luck of draw, doesn't win a game but loses 2 and you call it a S16? Most every team would not include that as a S16. LOL

UofM, Great response. If you remember the MD 2020 ads, Oscar Robertson was doing color on the broadcasts and he was cast in the commercial. His line was "oh, oh, oh so fine (or smooth)!"

:good!:

Oh, and seven, why is it Memphis would give up Graceland to just be considered for the SEC?

Hell yeah, Graceland! but pushing $40M per team revenue share?

Seeding began in 1978.

I asked you to list the years you are showing TN as having a S16 that none of the NCAA tournament websites such as ESPN do not. You have not done that that I have seen

Please let me know the years that I am contesting.

I posted that information several days ago.

TN: 7
Tiger High: 6

Premier football conference in the nation. 5th best basketball conference by all metrics even with Ky doing all the heavy lifting.

But in every year, SEC Basketball has been better and is much more prestigious than the Midwest Conference, the Metro Conference, the Great Midwest Conference, Conference USA, and the American Athletic Conference.

Let's be honest. For the last 40 years, Memphis has been in conferences akin to the Island of Misfits in that kid's Christmas movie.
