Vols strength of schedule

I know it was tough and I certainly don’t want to take anything away from what Tennessee has done or has faced…….but I don’t see how they are as close to Baylor as they are.

Baylor 12-4 Q1, 6-1 q2 that’s 16 Q1 games and 7 Q2……..holy crap that’s freakin 23 quad 1&2 games played over 30 games.

Tennessee played 19 so that’s a a lot too.

with the schedule, who they beat, their record and with no bad losses they definitely deserving of a 3 seed regardless…….hoping they do well next week.

Looking at some other sources...

Tennessee's SOS ranked 7th by ESPN (Alabama 1st): College Basketball Power Index - NCAA Tournament Predictions

7th by KenPom (Alabama 1st): 2022 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings

9th by Warren Nolan (Kansas State 1st): NET Strength of Schedule (SOS) - Men's College Basketball | WarrenNolan.com

10th by Massey (Alabama 1st): Massey Ratings - College Basketball : NCAA D1 Ratings

16th by Sagarin (Michigan 1st): College basketball team ratings 2021-22 - Jeff Sagarin Ratings

Tennessee played 11 games against the top 22 NET. Baylor player 7 games against the top 22. So, our schedule was more top loaded with tougher teams.

We are now getting the benefit of Colorado at 75, but Baylor is benefiting from KSU at 71 and a Q2 win with Oregon at 74. If Vandy and South Carolina were about 15 spots higher, we would have similar numbers to Baylor. There is a group of Big 12 teams in the 40-55 range.

It would be interesting to see how the teams we lost to seasons faired. It would give more context to how good of a team Tennessee is.

We are hurt by the fact that we have no quality wins away fro TBA. UNC is much better team than when we played them. The SEC tournament is huge for our seeding in the Big Dance. If we get finals, we could be a 2 seed. If we wash out early, we could fall to the bottom of the three list, we have wins over top teams, but they are all home games. Our cheap tent act in the second half did not help us.

Currently, we have 3 Quad 1 wins away from home and almost a 4th. I’d say that is sufficient.

I don’t understand the complaints about yesterday’s game ending up close. The committee doesn’t care about that, and we won’t remember a few months from now. We won against UF on Senior Day last year- does anyone remember how and by how much?

Agreed. And the committee will only see that we split with Ky with both teams winning at home.

Georgia doesn’t know if a basketball is blown up or stuffed. Plus Vols played Vandy twice.
Vanderbilt isn’t quite as bad as people think. They were actually pretty competitive this season. They surpassed their SEC win total from the previous 3 seasons in this season alone. The SEC is just too good right now.

They’re not but many of us went several years listening to what a debacle Tennessee basketball was during the Houston/O’Neil/ Peterson eras from Vandy fans. Nice to throw it back at them. Tennessee draws 21k and they draw 7k, on a good night. Nothing is deader in the Nashville sports scene as Vandy basketball.

I definitely don’t disagree with that lol

Recency bias will play a role. Need to make the finals in the SECT to get to the 2 line.

Vandy football must be a zombie then

I'm concerned with our lack of wins on the road and neutral sites. No ranked teams beaten away from TBA. North Carolina would be the best win. That usually is not a good sign for tournament success. We'll have another chance to change that this weekend

I will say it again: we currently have 3 Quad 1 road/neutral wins and really close to a 4th.

The top 4 seeds in the SEC lost like 1 home game.
