Yet another game of real importance slips away.....again.

17 seconds remaining and that's the best we can do?Thanks coach. Nice 3 attempt (senior) Wayne.

Piss poor clock management....we had a TO but didn't use it.... Hopson is killing us, he needs to refocus...Woolridge should never see the floor....... good guards are going to kill us all year.....we still lack that lock up defender

Hopson, Prince, and Woolridge all have a lot of work to do to be decent ball players. We found out who the real Scotty Hopson is in the past two games.

I never understand why shoot a 3 when down 1 freaking point. Pearl lets the players do pretty much whatever they want.

In spite of a valiant effort and Tyler Smith's pre-tournament vow, the Vols still couldn't pull out the first tournament title in the Bruce Pearl era. Losing to a top-10 team that didn't even have it's starting point guard on the floor doesn't bode well for the Vols' chances in the post-season. We still don't have the level of point-guard play we're going to need. Just how much of a bribe does Josh Selby need anyway? I could contribute a first-born child, if necessary.

Quit being an anti-Pearl for no reason. He's had 4 years at TN, with this being the 5th, he's 102-38, with 1 SEC championship, 3 division championships, he's positive against every SEC team except KY and LSU, whom he's 3-5 and 2-3 with respectively. The only coach to ever get TN to a #1 ranking, 4 NCAA tourney spots, two Sweet 16, one 2nd rounder and one 1st rounder. I mean That's a great record so far, why do you think Memphis tried to steal him?

Are you ever going to be happy or do you really just hate everything orange.

The last 17 tics did not lose this game. The rotation of players is the reason. Some of these guys need to be spectators!

It was not wrong when Dean Smith did it and it is not wrong now. If you watched the game you saw that after timeouts, Purdue looked very strong defensively. By running down in a scramble they were denied the opportunity. We were not going for the 3, the senior PG was supposed to make another layup which is exactly what we all wanted after seeing the previous one he scored. Because he drew their entire team into the lane, it made sense for a wide open Wayne Chism who is a pretty good 3 point shooter especially uncontested, to take that shot.

I am not a big basketball fan, and I don't know much about it, but......I was surprised that a #9 team played like they did. I expected more than I saw. Just another goofy fan here I guess!

Quit being such a homer. There is room for criticizm here. This team has little to no discipline, we pretty much just roll the ball out on the floor as say go play guys, looks like basketball I see at the parks. If we don't hit 15 3s a game we lose. And there are guys on this team who are playing that need to be so far down the bench they can't see the court.

What do you see that you like so much (i.e., player development, half court offense, team play, pg play, discipline, ability to draw up and have his team execute plays when the game in on the line and you absolutely must make the basket, etc.)?

I had the same chance Pearl did of getting the Memphis job. Zero.

Goins/Maze
McBee/Hopson
Tatum/Prince
Smith/Hall
Chism/Hall

That should be our 9 man rotation..... Woolridge and Williams add nothing to this team other than some fouls

Hopson didn't show up last night. He misses a few shots and has 0 confidence. Goins didn't do much but turn the ball over. I'm not sure why Woolridge is even in the game except to maybe give T Smith a rest. CBP needs to forbid Woolridge from taking 3's.

Both of you are right. Jake, he has done a lot to bring Tennessee some notoriety in the national scene and they do have a good record during his tenure. However, Justin is right about the style of "just roll the ball out on the floor as say go play guys" mentality. I'm not a fan of Bruces' and that goes back to when I worked with him in Milwaukee. I've never thought he coached X's and O's well, but the "playground" style of basketball appeals to a lot of basketball players and that's the kind of kids he's looking for. I for one love to play that way, but you've got to have a coach who can let the kids use their talent and also be able to coach them when need be. I give him credit for turning the culture of TN men's basketball around, but he's got a long way to go to be a top 10 coach IMO.

Yeah, we have lost almost all meaningful games under Pearl, but the win the against #1 Memphis has to count for something...I would consider that meaningful. But you are still right, we have to start winning meaningful tournament games.

I agree that Woolridge adds nothing. I recall seeing him come on the floor, committ two turnovers and a foul, along with horrible shot selection. But Williams on the other hand really impressed me. We NEED him to be a presence in the post and I think he did a good job on both ends of the floor last night. He got up like I didn't think he could on that block he had.

Hopson needs to learn how to play under control.. Too many turnovers on wild passes and trying to push the ball when nothing is there. I like the uptempo pace that this team plays with, but at times they need to get it under control and run their offense.

And chill out on the "we can't win a "meaningful" game" BS. Pearl has won plenty of meaningful games and you can't be upset with a 1 point loss to a #6 ranked team, especially when we are only 4 games into the season and that's the first GOOD team we've played.

The team we have right now would loose to the team we will have in March by 10+ points. I think we learned a lot from that game and we should breeze through the schedule until we see Memphis. That game will show how much progress we have made.

Gentlemen,

What gives you cause for optimism when we see the same mistakes, style of play, weaknesses that we have seen for years. What is going to change between now and March when it has not changed in 4 years?

Players have to make shots though. You can't get much more open than Chism. And that was an uncontested shot from one of his favorite spots on the floor. Tatum also had a wide open look from the wing that could have put the vols up. Pealr cant put the ball in the basket for these guys. We had two chances to take the lead in the final 30 seconds of play

Tatum has been playing very well and should move ahead of Prince in starting line up. Chism was a man and carried the Vols. He had a good look at the end -it just did not fall. He is not one to drive the lane from the 3 pt line or he should have driven the lane which was wide open to make the easy two or draw a foul. Purdue outplayed the Vols in shooting %, assists, TO and were generally getting better looks off their screens except they could not stop Chism.
