Vols seeing a difference in Butch this spring

Negs will just say he doesn't care anymore, so why worry. Posit's will think he's confident in this staff and can relax. Only the W's and L's will settle who's right.

he is "relaxed" now...hmmm

(honestly i dont know if thats a good or bad thing but it will definitely cut down on the neck veins/ dislocated jaw memes)

Probably a combination of things explain this change. One of them could be the influence of the new coaches -- maybe feeling a little less like he needs to watch them so closely? We also have a more seasoned roster that understands the expectations they know he has for them. Either one of those things would naturally make him a bit more relaxed.

I hope it's something positive like this, because under these circumstances a more relaxed coach tends to lead to a more relaxed team and a better result on the field. You always hear players on successful teams talk about playing loose and having fun. I think it's a good thing.

Or maybe he's just given up. But I doubt that.

I think he's done a great job this offseason of hiring the right guys at the right positions and standing back and being more of a program manager. I think his micromanaging style has hurt him in the past. Hopefully it pays dividends this season

many have wondered if he had it in him to change himself, or at least have the self awareness to understand what his limitations are, what his strengths are, and how to best take advantage of that knowledge.

i'm not saying that this little blurb proves that's happened, or is happening.

but, for all of us that have talked about all this....i'd at least call it a good sign.

I've been (erroneously) called a "negavol", especially where Jones is concerned, and I don't think that at all. I think it's a very positive development and sign he's finally become self-aware and wants to change in an effort to improve his program. Sorry to disappoint you.

Many realist-VOLS or realVOLS for short, are labeled negaVOLS. You are just more realistic than others.... Myself included. 😁😁

People were commenting on how Butch seemed more relaxed and confident last spring, too. Having better chemistry and trust between coaches has to be a big relief... but the pressure doesn't really kick in till fall camp.

Don't remember that. Lot of "Florida is in his head" and similar shat. This year's theme is SC and Vandy losses will end him. :loco:

Agreed. Dont remember commentary regarding how he'd changed anything about himself.

The media guys were talking about it last spring-- how Butch looked like a guy who knew he finally had the horses to win. They said he was a different guy from the year before.

I just think the coaches are looser in the spring. Things get real in August.

Look for more Florida talk this year, too-- "Vols haven't won in the Swamp since 2003-- 6 in a row!" and other twaddle.

Agreed. Recall that last year he named 4 permanent captains and really pushed a player led team moreso than others year, gave much more autonomy to the players.

That said, many have said his demeanor has changed this Spring and I think that's a good move in the right direction. But as you said, it doesn't get real til the Fall...

"Just win baby." " Winning solves a lot of problems."
