2012 is about the same compared to recent classes it looks very similar.

Dooley-2012= 10 four stars or above – True Freshman

Dooley-2011= 12 four stars or above – 10 still on roster (all Soph’s –none redshirted)

Dooley-2010= 13 four stars or above – 8 still on roster (RS Soph and Jr’s)

Kiffin-2009= 10 1/2 four stars or above – 2 1/2 still on roster!!!!!!!!! (RS Jr’s or SR’s) (Marlon Wall is a half because he signed twice)

Fulmer-2008= 3 1/2 four stars or above – ½ still on roster (RS Srs) (Marlon Wall is a half because he signed twice)

33 4 stars or above still on roster according to Rivals.

PS This does not include Alex Bullard who would be a 4 star from 2010.

Good info, but in my opinion, everyone is reading into stars too much. I get caught up in them too, but I think if we looked at what needs were addressed, we'd have a more favorable opinion of the class.

I'd like to see how that compares to other top 10/comparable recruiting classes during that time. I can't imagine much more attrition than that.

I think the stars are meaningful to a certain extent. I don't understand the argument that recruiting stars are meaningless because the stars are based, at least in part, on the interest the recruit garners from colleges, etc., and, as Alabama, LSU, USC, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, etc., have demonstrated, great recruiting classes frequently lend to great success on the field. Of course, there are counter examples like Miami, FSU, Clemson, UGA, and, to a certain extent, many of the UT teams in the early to mid-part of the 2000s. At the end of the day, as a fan, I want to see highly prized recruits choosing UT and then I'll hope and pray they are as good as advertised. I also agree that filling needs is an equally important part of recruiting because it doesn't matter if you have 12 NFL caliber WRs if you do not have talented players at other positions because football is the consummate team sport. As I have said before, I like this recruiting class but I think Dooley's first two were better (of course, we will see how it plays out on the field).

I totally agree. Have to recruit for the needs. If you have a whole class of 5 Stars but not in the needed positions, not gonna do you a lot of good.

Also doesn't count sentimore as a 4* Which he was (rated) when he signed out of HS (and still is in talent)

So basically 2 more solid classes will bring the roster back where it needs to be. Assuming we get some damn W's this year, the 2013 class could be an awesome one. It really helps there is a lot of talent in TN we actually want this year and should land.

Yeah, I mean having 5 star guys helps a lot, but if you don't recruit those 3 star lineman to build depth and push the higher ranked players, it doesn't do much for you IMO.

OP, who are the two guys we already lost from 2011? I realize Arnett is one of them, but who is two?

For comparison sake South Carolina has signed 41 in that time span…Here is how many of that 41 are still on their roster. They've lost a lot.

2012 – 8

2011 – 7 left

2010 – 4 left

2009 – 4 left out of 14!!!!

2008 – 0 left of 6!!!!

23 left.
