"The Vols are back at work under the strength staff led by A.J. Artis. The big news for the Vols is that no one returning to Knoxville tested positive for COVID-19. Many other programs around the country had positive tests in their programs. The Vols had one with a grad assistant who has been quarantined at his apartment and will be for 14 days. We don't know the exact details of the antibodies test but zero current positive results was good news for Pruitt and his program.

The challenge for college coaches is what the players do outside of workout hours. They aren’t just going from their room to the complex back to the room. In bigger cities like Orlando, Atlanta, etc. it’s a challenge because players are out and about interacting with more people. The good news is that in Knox County, the number of cases has remained low.

With players back in town, it’s back to work to get guys ready for July OTA’s and fall camp in August. When asked what kind of shape guys were in upon return, the answer we got was “not too bad." The balance for strength coaches now is weight room strength work versus conditioning work. Also being careful/mindful not to push too hard too early for fear of knee and achilles injuries.

When the “OTA” work starts in July strength and conditioning work will obviously continue. From July 13-July 23, players can have up to eight hours per week of weight training, conditioning and film study.

Then July 24-Aug. 6 (14 days), the 20 hour rule kicks in where you have had up to eight hours a week for strength training, conditioning and film review, one hour a day for walk-through and one hour for meetings. But turning that two week stretch you have to take two days off so it’s really 12 days of extra walk throughs and meetings. Then on August 7th, regular pre-season practice begins." - The War Room
