Vols Report Card: South Carolina

no way i give coaching an A+. Seems like your scores are skewed based on what happened in the second half. you want to give them a second half A+, fine.

1st play of the game, 75 yard passing touchdown.
2nd quarter drive to the red zone, get stopped on 4 plays.
Right before halftime, give up a big drive and touchdown.
Cimaglia, who has been the most consistent player on the team, missed a pretty easy fieldgoal.
Coach Pruitt picks up a big penalty. Hurt the scoreboard, even if you think it boosted the player moral in hindsight.

I would give the first half a C-, and that's only because of a B effort on the part of the offense.

Nigel warrior is on the coaching staff?
Missed FGs are the coaches fault?

Also, read the article.

I'm not going to read the article, because the grades are dumb. you misundestood my post-- I am not blaming the other items all on coaching.
Those are the reasons those other phases of the game dont deserve such a high grade.
and, Warrior is a beast anyway, who I wouldnt disparage

well, it's probably because I dont just look at the highlights and final score. the first half was pretty sloppy on both sides of the ball. We gave up a quick touchdown and then also a touchdown to end the half, which is on the coaching staff. It was poor defending. offensively, the first half wasnt that impressive either. giving Pruitt an A because of the result and the second half is fine, if that's what you want to do. besides the missed field goal, second half deserves an A+

Here's USCe's second half possessions:

Punt (3 and out)
Punt (3 and out)
Punt (3 and out)
Turnover on Downs
Punt (3 and out) block returned for TD
Turnover on Downs
Turnover on Downs

The defense was simply amazing in the second half. If there was a grade higher than A+, they deserve it. 24 unanswered points, only bc the defense wasn't allowing USCjr to do anything with the football. Probably the best our LBs have played all year.

Nigel warrior overrunning a play and taking a horrendous angle (his IMO) isn’t on the coaches.

I can tell you were not at the game. Coaches "Big Penalty" ignited the crowd which up to that point had been loud but not over the top loud. After that series of penalties and the ones that happened and were not called in the 2nd half, the crowd was electric. The players feed off the energy of the crowd. You could tell the difference in the 2nd half. What would the general say "if the breaks don't go your way, pour on more steam" That is exactly what happened.

FINALLY this team has bought in to what the coaches have been telling them, they are believing they can win. We have been more talented than a lot of the teams we have lost to in the past 10 years because the team did not believe they could win.

That's a lot of words without saying we get an A+ grade in this game as a whole. So, I think we're in agreement

Having the players ready to play when the whistle blows absolutely is. And it's becoming a pattern. See the first 3 drives Alabama had against us before we settled in. The coach needs to do a better job of starting the game strongly

So out of curiosity.. Explain to me what the coaches can do for the players to start the game strongly?

God!! It must be a cross to bare, being so much smarter than most every one else, that it causes you to feel others are dumb. Why not just say I disagree rather than pronounce others as dumb.

That last Carolina touchdown at the end of the first half was set up by an out of this world catch, one of the best I have ever seen. The DB was right where he should have been, crowding the sideline and in the way of a normal catch. No way to have defensed that one better unless you count sacking the QB.

And the goal line defense was good to great. Only a video review gave them a TD (twice), and still is debatable. The whole team played with a burning desire to win, something that was missing in the first game and hence our level of displeasure.

If they play this way the rest of the season, I may not be happy if they should lose but if they gave their all for Tennessee like this game, then I'm onboard all the way with them.

GO, Big Orange!

So... "No way" you'd give coaching an A+, but you would?

You don't have to be happy with the first half, just the final score. That final score affects the grade more than anything.

I said the grades are dumb. I didnt say any person is dumb. so, I did exactly what you said. I disagreed with the grades because they dont make sense. and I also gave my reason for why the grader was skewed in his analysis. nice try, tho

There's always one in the bunch.

yep, always one who stays dispassionate, while the rest of you guys bounce around like a bipolar man on a Pogo stick.

Pruitt's great, 2019 is the year! Guarantano is awesome. We gonna win 9 games.
one game into the season. Fire Pruitt! this is aweful. our QB sucks. We gonna just win 1 game this whole year guys.
(at which point I quoted on here saying that our expectations would be so low, it would look like improvement as the season went on).
halfway through the season. Pruitt is turning things around, players are buying. Guys, we gonna win out and go to the Gator bowl. Pruitt is becoming a Vol.
