Vols release season's first depth chart

A few things I notice:

1) Four freshman in the two deep at offensive line. If we have injuries there, it could get ugly.

2) Matt Milton not in the two deep. That's not looking good.

3) Where the hell is Byron Moore?

It is concerning to have a FS that has had trouble making tackles.

A few things that are surprising to me...

Anderson ahead of Milton
Kerbyson ahead of Pair
Evans ahead of Gordon
Wilks ahead of Moore

Is Milton still hurt? That's the only sense I can make of that one...

I guess I overestimated Pair's ability and the staffs desire to redshirt Kerbyson...

I know Gordon has been practicing at the nickel spot but does that mean he doesn't play CB at all anymore?

And Moore behind Wilks...I know it might be blasphemy...but I have a very hard time believing that one...and yes I saw Dooley's quote about putting Wilks in the game

I would hope Milton's injury is why he's not in the two deep. His size should dictate he be on the field at least in red zone situations.

Dont know how to view the o line situation. I'm leaning toward the take that we must have some serious talent in those spots because some of the freshman are supposed to be studs. Linebacker concerns me a ton. Will the added depth up front and deep secondary be enough to help the backer out??

Should still be a tough team to beat for anyone in the league. If the big boys overlook us, they will go down for sure.

Shane Reveiz is running 2nd string. If that doesn't temper your expectations for the year, then I don't know what will.

Surprised to see Anthony Anderson in the two deep over Milton.. Also, I didn't expect to see Lane listed as the backup RB over Neal... Maybe what we've been hearing from camp is the real deal, and not just hype.

Art Evans is still listed on the depth chart?
holy ****e batman... that fool tries to avoid contact 'til he can shove a receiver out of bounds.

I think Milton will get more playing time later in the year.

SIAP but I didn't feel like reading 5 pages..

I'm guessing they just mixed up AJ & Curt at weak and strong side backer?

I know a few days ago people were saying that AJ would be the Sam because they're usually bigger and their match up is the tight end.

No, people said that, but every depth chart that has been posted over the last few months had it the other way. AJ at Will and Maggit at Sam. It didn't totally make sense to me, but it's been reported that way for a while.

its because he has to be able to cover the tight end in pass coverage. need to have a better athlete at SAM

I don't know..it's not like AJ isn't an athlete...I would think he is quick enough and has better size than Maggit. I'm not arguing the coaches have it wrong - obviously it would be stupid to presume I know more than they do. It just went counter to what I suspected would happen...

Milton (concussion) & Neal (knee) were both in non-contact jerseys in practice. Maybe they're just not ready to go vs. Montana.

Milton, Neal, and King are injured. This may (or may not) be why they are not on the chart.

(Bolded so people will hopefully read it before posting)

So to repeat, Lanier and Couch aren't starting? And whoever said they would not start from the onset are idiots? Seems I recall a mouth fellow repeating that message quite often, but he doesn't seem to stick his nose around as much.

Can Anderson actually contribute at WR? It's hard to imagine a player could make the switch this late and be effective, but I've read several positive comments about his production.

I brought this up when the depth chart came out showing Maggitt at strong side and Johnson at weak side. I too thought that was a mistake because I had read differently. Here's one of the articles I had read.

Curt Maggitt - SEC Blog - ESPN
