Someone taller and obscenely more athletic can definitely play better D.

Lofton was a lot of things to this team, defender wasn't one of them.

there are way too many ifs right now. PG play, rebounding and shooting are all question marks right now. Those fall where they should and we're a great team. Any one of the 3 slide and we're struggling again to pass the sweet 16, which means we're a top 16 team.

Well I agree that it's a little low, but....

We have 2 unproved point guards

We lost 2 big scorers from last season.

We're going to have to rely on inexperienced players.

Their is a fair argument that we don't deserve top 20, but by January we'll probably prove everyone wrong.

yes, they're unproven as well.

what on earth does that have to do with how this team matches up with the rest of the nation.

I think they'll live up if Bruce makes them play D. If not, they'll again be inconsistent and see big up and down spells, which means losses to solid teams with good PG play.

I know it's been said a ton, but our PG play on both ends will be a huge determinant of our success. We're at worst decent on the rest of the floor.

So where do you think UT will finish in the SEC (reg season and tourney) and the NCAA tourney.

but that's just a hollow title with the NCAA tourney format. Kinda like winning the NIT.

Young team with newcomers at key spots is just tough to predict. Haven't seen how they defend, board or pass.

I have to assume passing will remain a strength, boards will get better and defense will get dramatically better.

21, thats rediculous. Bruce needs to post that on the wall in the locker room today. What an insult.
Don Devoe said on Sunday that this team will be nasty on defense. If that is true, we wont have to worry about being ranked 21st for very long.

I'd like to think so. Last year's group read the papers too much for their own good. Let's play ball and get better every night and the chips will fall where we want.

Who cares? That's preseason speculation. If you don't like that poll, try the Rivals one that has us at #10. Either one is as meaningless as the other.

Just take a look at what we have - some proven talent and some very promising new talent along with a coach that could motivate a rock into action. Those are the things that are getting my blood pumping.

In BB, polls are irrelevant. Just make the tourny, get a decent seed, and talent will prevail.
