Vols Ranked #9 In AP Poll

He has won everywhere he's been college and pro. Michigan was 5-7 in 2014. Harbaugh is hired and they go 10-3 capped with a domination of UF that Bama, LSU, and FSU weren't able to match. Also it took a complete fluke play against MSU to stop them from going 11-2. Imagine the hype in 2014 if Butch took us to 10-3 in 2013.

Harbaugh had much more talent to work with than we did when CBJ took over. JMO

Butch didn't have 2 top 10 recruiting classes on campus waiting for him and a easy big 10 schedule.

Harbaugh was more the beneficiary of Brady Hoke underachieving. Same as McElwain with benefited from Muschamp underachieving.

2011 class was #26.

2012 and 2013 classes yes, Top 10 according to 247. However, the last 2 classes, 2014 and 2015 were #s 20 and 37 respectively.

Average class ranking the last 5 years is about #19. He didn't step into Ann Arbor taking over a championship team last year. He did a great job and will have the Wolverines being a perennial national title contender for the foreseeable future IMO.

That team only went 4-8 because of an apocolyptic amount of season ending injuries. Remember they were 11-2 just a year earlier. 2013 Florida was very talented. We just caught them at a bad time. Early on before the cascade of season ending injuries.

That team was always terrible, including when we played them. They tried every way imaginable to give us that game and we couldn't stop tripping over our own junk.

2 top 10 classes in the 4 years before he got there was better than everyone but Ohio State in the Big 10.

Like I said earlier, we shouldn't really be surprised by his instant success given the pure talent advantage the roster he took over had against the rest of his conference.

Harbaugh is a great coach but like everyone else he needs talent to work with. Brady Hoke is the one who underachieved. It wasn't that Harbaugh overachieved.

That team still won 11 games the year prior. They started 2013 ranked in the top 10. They also put lots of players into the NFL.

I know you guys love revisionist history when it comes to Florida but there was a reason that team was a double digit favorite over Tennessee going into that game. They were significantly more talented.

And if not for a barrage of season ending injuries to many starters would've won a lot more than 4 games.

So looking at this...

In the first week, you could have a couple of top ten teams get knocked off.

Bama could lose to USC.

Oklahoma could lose to Houston.

LSU could lose to Wisconsin.

In a crazy world, FSU could get beat by Ole Miss.

I'd be perfectly content moving up a few spots after week 1.
Its n excitin first week but I serously dout any of em drop week one. Bama too phisical, LSU will crush Wi, FSU to much for Miss. Houston has the best chance.

Any given Saturday.

USC has something to prove in their new head coach and is playing in a neutral site. LSU I partially agree with. FSU could underestimate Ole Miss and they are ready to prove they belong on the big stage (before the inevitable NCAA sanctions kick in) and Houston is trying to prove something no other G5 team has done before which is reach the playoffs.

Stranger things have happened.

Today's ranking marks the 40th time the Vols have been ranked in the AP preseason poll. It is also the highest rank for Butch Jones coached team.

Hopefully the last sentence is repeated numerous times throughout this season... like Butch Jones has never bad a top 5 team,Butch Jones now has the #1 ranked team....

UT should be ranked higher than stanford or michigan with all the talent coming back! The vols never get respect in the media.

After 12 years of mediocrity, we'll have to prove it on the field, as we should. (As in we should have to prove it and we should prove it.)

It's not simply a matter of how well you recruit. It's also a matter of how well your competition is recruiting.

In that regard, Butch took over a program mid tier in both his conference and division.

When Harbough took over, how many teams on Michigan's schedule had better talent? Hint: there is a huge drop off after Ohio state and Michigan in terms of talent in the B1G.

Glad to see you acknowledge that Harbaugh is a great coach. Guys at his level (you can count them on one hand) can win and win big with the same players that other lesser coaches can't. Recall what Meyer did in his first year at Ohio State with essentially the same team that Fickel struggled with the season before.....from 6-7 to 12-0 in the blink of an eye.

Harbaugh is one of those guys who can "beat yours with his and his with yours" IMO.

Still gotta do something with your talent. Hoke was 20-18 his last 3 seasons at Michigan. Harbaugh steps in a immediately goes 10-3. Coaches make a difference no matter where your program is and the best ones win at a high level in a very short period of time.

I think UGA could be in for a fight, Bama will probably be played close for a half and then pull away, FSU/Ole Miss will be a wild card game IMO. That one is hard to pick.

All depends on how FSU's new QB plays. I don't think they can just run the ball on Ole Miss without a down the field threat so the new kid will have to make some plays. Interesting game for sure.
