As stated before, I think Pearl's only option is to continue to make the team feel like the hunter. That may not be true within the SEC, as most are picking them to win it. But it is true within the NCAAs at large. Remember, no McD's All-Americans on the team - and the other programs (UNC, Kansas, Memphis, UCLA) get way more attention and respect year in and year out. And, UT hasn't won a championship - or gone beyond the Sweet 16 for that matter.

Bruce is a motivator - he'll find a way.

Tennesse's on the verge of something special is basketball....I cant believe that i just typed that. I've waited my whole life to get excited about Vol Basketball. My best memories involve Dyron Nix, Tony White, Michael Brooks, Dan Federman, Doug Roth, etc. I just cant quite wrap my mind around the fact that we're preseason top 3.

I share the same experiences, Rex. My first games were watching Tyrone Beaman, Willie Burton, Dale Ellis and Michael Brooks at Stokely. I thought we might be there when Green had early success, but that faded quickly. Now, Pearl has the opportunity to ride a Sweet 16 appearance to better things.

Pressure is certainly building on the Vols this season, hopefully they will be up for the challenge.Time will tell.

We certainly are a spot or 2 up on where we should be, but I'll take it, it's very close in desparity in the top 5 so it's tough to judge.

We'll need a lot more consistency and a lot better post play if we want to remain a Top 5-10 team all year.

But who knows, it's so close up top, if 1 player goes down it could change up the rankings big time for the top 5-6.

Memphis made it further than we did last year, and lose no one and gain Rose.

They wouldn't have if it were not for Oden's mighty swat. I truly believe that UT would have made the Final Four if it were not for that.

I'd take UT straight up against Memphis State every time. We are the best program in the state, baby!

I agree that these rankings are essentially worthless though. Just get to the dance and stay healthy, fellas!

Memphis returns everyone and add Rose, that's crazy talk.

And we lose Bradshaw (hopefully not Crews) and add Tyler Smith - a player that has actually played college ball (not a hyped recruit) and had an awesome freshman season. Plus we add size with Prince and Williams - Tatum too but I doubt all of these guys contribute that much. Not to mention we beat them by 20 - I'll take UT.

Last year Memphis was just a bunch of amazing athletes but didn't have many true scorers or that much of a go to guy like Lofton.

I'm not too sold on Prince and am not sure how Williams is doing. If Memphis played us and went down low with their bigs then they could probably take us, but if we dictated tempo like we did last year and make it a shooting contest then the advantadge is on us.

Their center is dumb and is a walking foul machine. They won't be able to go down low because he'd have 3 fouls in the first ten minutes again.

Just making observations of what I saw in last years game - plus other televised Memphis games I was able to catch.
