Vols Practice Thread Tuesday

“Well, I think you guys probably give yourselves more credit than you deserve. The rest of us, we’re not really worried about what you say when it comes to our quarterback and all of that.”

That was Pruitt’s response when he was asked if JG handled the week leading up to UTC was different and the plan to get other QBs in the game.

That response tells me that Pruitt feels he’s above criticism, and I hate to break it to you and him but he’s not. That’s a stubborn or tone deaf attitude and it will cost him his job.

So If you want to make snide comments that’s fine, but at the end of the day we, the fans, and people all over the country and media have seen piss poor coaching happening here. Which doesn’t appear to change any time soon unfortunately.

No Pruitt fan right now myself, but his comments were towards the media. He didn’t say the media should shut up. He said that they don’t know all the facts pertaining to the QB situation. As HC, I personally think he’s more than entitled to speak that although he will own it, good or bad. The media always gets the last word. I really don’t think he has issues with what we believe about the QBs either. Frankly ours and the media’s opinions shouldn’t influence his and his staff’s decision making. He’s not a politician. I’ll give him that much credit for now.

I think it would be a huge mistake, if Pruitt is thinking jg from Ga. and Bama then change, these backups need to game expierence. If they get the snaps against Ga. and Bama, we could still be in a bowl game. And I am meaning a possiblity. There is no chance with jg. The back ups need expierence so they can perform better against the teams we have a chance of winning. Sc. Uab, Vandy, Ky. Mo. Ms state. I don't see us winning any of them with jg. But a chance with others, we know what we have with jg, we don't know what we have with the back ups. If they are not able to do it, at least you tried something different, because what we are doing now is simply not working. If you have nothing to lose by trying, and everything to gain by trying, then by all means try. And thats where we are not, nothing to lose by trying something different.

Pruitt is of the old school coaching type that believes turnovers are more important than touchdowns. He believes offense sells tickets but defense wins games. Honesty he doesn’t care about the offense and fails to realize the game has changed. Fulmer liked him so much b/c he reminded him of himself. We all remember the Fulmer teams that would get a 3 point lead then go conservative on offense. Pruitt is foolishly trying to build that same type of team.

And that doesn't work in todays football. Ga. should have beat nd, by 2 or 3 td last Sat. but conservative game plan is what made it close. Ga. has great talent, and this type of conservative games is what cost Ga the last two games against Bama. In todays college football you have got to put up more points than you used to. Imo Ga has the talent to win a nc. but if he goes conservative it will never happen. By the way I am a vol for life win or lose. And by the way that's what Saban used to do, but even with their players you can't do that now, thats why Saban has changed his game plans. He doesn't sit on a lead the way he used to.

I don’t necessarily think that a backup QB throwing a couple of picks would/should ruin him. If that’s the case, then that QB doesn’t have the mental toughness to lead our team.

Our qb coach, heis. winner threw 6 interceptions in his second game, didn't seem to hurt him

Poppycock. Horse manure.

I think it hurts them more riding the pine seeing the garbage jg playing over them. What must they think?? You mean the coaches thinks he is better than me??? That would hurt much more than making mistakes in the game.

I don't care if the kid throws 5 interceptions against GA..... Try giving them as long as JG and then vote who is better... Time for the youngsters now... To roll out JG again is not good for any one
I do not disagree. But, if the move doesn't work, don't start yelling at CJP. He didn't think Maurer was ready yet.

If this is about the future, then why are you continuing to start a quarterback with neither potential nor ability to lead the offense consistently?
When it comes to the future, I don't think Maurer will succeed in his battle with our incoming QB. Might get him ready to be a backup. If he goes in, I hope he succeeds.

I won't.....and if he trots JG out there to start the Ga. game I'll quit posting on the Football Forums until a change in QB is made...I'll read but I'm not going to post any more...
I guess I really don't believe all they say and the Ga. St. game showed how wrong they can be in their coaching...and when Pruitt says he really doesn't listen to what we say thats troublesome to me....
Because of what transpired over the summer off season and fall camp we have been in the bottom of the barrel and haven't made much progress and that is on the coaches....
If it is true about the locker room and some players wanting a change in QB then I think I'm on the right trail...

JG still with the 1s.. Oh well
IF CJP is wise, he lets JG take first team snaps in all open periods of practice to not tip his hand then immediately yanks JG for Mauer the instant the last reporter walks out.

But then again, maybe Pruitt isn't being wiley and actually plans on starting JG against UGA...in which case....We. Are. Doomed.

Oh...one other thing. Wouldn't at all be surprised if Kirby isn't instructing his defense "WHATEVER you do, don't put a hard hit on JG. We don't want him getting injured. They might bring in someone who actually can play"

Best thing about all these meltdowns on here is ... it’s based on a 30 second clip and about 10-15 mins that the media is allowed to see. JG goin first in a routes on air drill means absolutely nothing in regard to who is our #_1 QB ... nothing. If he is taking the majority of snaps in the 11 on 11 that’s different but no one and i mean NOBODY knows that information one way or another.

That should make you very happy
Why? I don't want to see the dude get killed on the field.

I dont want to see him on the field at all. Its time to sunset JG and let the Freshmen go at it. I can at least forgive Freshmen for playing like Freshmen....its hard to do the same for a guy who has started 20 games and is a RS Junior...

I have reached that level as well.

Or he's making a calculated decision to let JG get slaughtered in the Murderer's Row stretch before trotting out Shrout and / or Maurer.

Frankly, I'd just start Shrout and see what he gives us, but I can understand the rationale that you'd rather break in a new QB after Georgia and Bama.

Shrout has the arm and the quick release. Seems to have the decision making. I would say the only thing he lacks in at this point is possibly “accuracy” but I wonder if that is more because of timing rather than accuracy. I think you have to give him a shot.

According to PFF - Maurer rated out as a 29% overall (JG rated as like a 66%) - which apparently anything below 50 is considered a backup player.

I think the fans could take a battle between the two.....but let both show what they got in a game...
Shrout had a strong arm and over threw but you can correct that....I think BM has touch on the ball...
Let the fans see them battle it out fair and square...then the fans will accept the QB situation for what it is....

I mean they put BM in the game and went hurry up...1st stupid game and was in a rush the whole time....Ist game playing was tough enough much less a hurry up offense to go along with it......

Don't use logic, it doesn't work well on this site.

Well in fairness BM came from a HS that only ran Hurry up. So that’s probably why they did that with him. But I agree with you on just letting the two Freshman battle it out in a game.
