Last night's practice #7 was closed. Practice today at 2:50. I'll update this post.
Full scrimmage tomorrow (closed) and off Monday.

Full scrimmage tomorrow (closed) and off Monday.
The media saw just a single individual period (less than seven minutes)...
Sandwiched between a reportedly spirited practice Friday night and tomorrow’s scrimmage, the Vols were in shells today.
Most notably Saturday, both Trey Smith and Chance Hall were doing a bit of light contact work. The two offensive linemen were participating in the same drill as the rest of the unit — hitting a medicine ball held by a teammate while concentrating on running your feet.
Tracy Rocker’s defensive line was doing a walk-through drill in preparation for the scrimmage, and when a backup group (comprised of Emmitt Gooden, John Mincey and two others) couldn’t remember the play-call or correct alignment, Rocker made the entire unit do a suicide.
-Jesse SimontonWe didn’t see any routes on air, but Jauan Jennings was a participate in the individual drill today.
-Lous FernandezThe offensive line was working with medicine balls today, blocking against each other. Trey Smith steps up and blocks so hard that he pushes a teammate to the ground. He's looking pretty good, I'd say.
Trey Smith is back. And not just back on the field; I mean back as in he’s back to his old self. If I didn’t know he missed all of spring because of blood clots in his lungs, I wouldn’t guess it from what I saw today.
I’m encouraged by what I saw from Jahmir Johnson today. He had a few good reps and was even told that one of his reps in that “medicine ball” drill I mentioned above was his best rep thus far.
Shy Tuttle has become a vocal leader on the defensive line, as has Kyle Phillips.
Emmit Gooden is working his way into the rotation more, and he’s starting to find a spot along with Tuttle, Phillips, and Alexis Johnson.
-Nathanael RutherfordJohn Mincey and Kingston Harris still have a ways to go before they’ll be counted on to make regular contributions, but I like some of the flashes I’ve seen from them this fall.
-Jesse SimontonAn encouraging sign for Tennessee: OL Trey Smith and Chance Hall were both participating in light contact work today. Smith looks on track to be fully-cleared on Aug. 19. Hall making steady progress, too.
As the final players straggled back in, Rocker looked to see who finished last. It was freshman John Mincey, who was required to run the sprint again. But just moments later, Rocker decided to send the entire group through the sprint a second time.
This time, Mincey and fellow freshman Kingston Harris finished last.
Finally, the group settled in to start a drill. But after a few rounds of hitting a practice dummy, a miscommunication by a few players resulted in Rocker sending the entire group on a third sprint. A walk-on freshman, Airin Spell from Brentwood Academy in Nashville, was first to complete the final sprint.
-David CobbTennessee athletic director Phillip Fulmer watched the period of Saturday's practice open to the media on the sideline with former Vols defensive back Iquoris "Inky" Johnson
Tuttle typically has played the nose but is getting some work elsewhere on the defensive front. The Vols could be looking to increase his flexibility and at least appear to be tinkering with trying to get their best lineup on the field.
Walk-on Paul Bain and freshman Greg Emerson also continue to get work at the nose, while senior Kyle Phillips and sophomore Kivon Bennett worked at one end spot and freshman Kurott Garland and sophomore Matthew Butler worked at the other one.
Darrin Kirkland Jr. appeared to be limited during linebacker drills. Kevin Sherrer had his unit working on its drops into coverage, pursuit angles and tackling form, with Quart'e Sapp, Daniel Bituli and Will Ignont all making good contact with the ballcarrier. With Kirkland, the Vols may have been managing him a little bit to make sure he's ready to go for Sunday's scrimmage.
While the outside linebackers were going through drills on the sleds two at a time, Jordan Allen was two blocking dummies over getting some extra work.
-Patrick BrownJJ Peterson still isn't on Tennessee's campus.
