Vols Practice Thread #6

I gotta admit, the two players that have me most curious right now to see how they perform and how they develop is Henry T and Elijah S. There are others on the team I'm excited to see play, but these two are going to be really, really good. Of course, JMO.

Is Solomon working at Nose or End? Thought I saw where Pruitt would like him at end, but just wondering in the event he gets cleared.

Brown's comments on Shrout/ Maurer's arm strength seem to indicate the opposite of Ubben's recent comments on the topic.

I’m sure they’ll be packages where we’ll see him in both spots. 3-4 sets call for bigger ends where the nose takes the Double and your ends crash. If he’s eligible he’s gonna be a good one.

I think Maurer is the guy once he gets comfortable and his feet get wet. He has a cannon and in Chaney’s offense it will do very well.
I just hope it's extremely close because it turns out we've got a couple of future studs back there.
Kinda lean BM myself though.

I think he will be better than Shrout. It wouldn't surprise me if he won the #2 job.

Need a solid #2 if we want to get to the next level. Injuries happen .

The O-line has improved, so our JR QB should be able to operate better this year

Hopefully BEFORE the VN Bust Police decide otherwise. 😏

These two, especially Simmons, along with W. Morris can be integral parts of our rebuilding process. I’m excited to see several of these new comers take the field. I don’t know that I’ve felt that way the past few years. I know they’re young and will take their lumps, but I’m excited nonetheless.
GBO!!

I'm sure this has been discussed in the practice threads but seeing Trey take first team reps continuously is very interesting. I know there's a good chance he won't play but it is very encouraging that he is getting 1st team reps when they could just stick him primarily in the 2nd.

I think at this point it's more than likely that he does play barring any setbacks.

I have to admit, though i thought we might eventually get solid production from To'o'to'o, i figured it would take a while to learn the D, and i felt like the Maggitts and AJs starting as fresh at LB was a very rare thing.

Gotta admit I am even MORE surprised at Simmons showing out at this point. Guess, I was star-gazing, and shame on me. Might need to trust this staff a little more.

Elijah Simmons was back out there impressing, beating Aubrey Solomon and Savion Williams in two reps. Willams later beat Kingston Harris and Darel Middleton also smoked Latrell Bumphus. While I was watching a separate pass rush drill, Tracy Rocker was very complimentary of Solomon and Ja’Quain Blakely.

Hey @kylealexanderfan if only he could last 70 snaps... 🙄

My guess, and it's only a guess. He will be playing unless something changes between now and game time. I would imagine, at this time, he's clot free, working him in slowly to see if one appears. My guess is, he's seeing the doctor every couple of days. But it's pretty obvious, to me, the intent is to play him and have him ready!

One of the things I like about Simmons is he looks far from pretty. One side of his jersey rides up, one sock halfway down, the other half of his jersey rides up to his chest. He has to have a few snot bubbles goin', looks more like the old school pit fighter like Tank Abbott than a football player sometimes. He's going to cause OLs trouble this year, get ready.

Yup, I’ve had enough of the looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

Donte' Hightower started as a Fr at Bama. I think that maybe Leonard Little started some as a Fr. Henry T looks like he's going to see the field this year. Morris, Wright, Henry T and Crouch look to be the 4 freshman vying for playing time. I don't think Simmons will play much, might get in the rotation by the end of the year.

Little was in juco as a freshman. Did immediately bring the boom as a sophomore.

You gotta figure that if Shrout has already been through his redshirt year, and he's still neck-and-neck with Maurer, it may not bode well for him as the 2nd string. I would hope Shrout has a better command of the offense. Raw-talent-wise, I have no idea...
