Vols Practice Thread #4

O-line and WRs are still the two position groups that concern me the most. Theoretically, WRs should be improved this season with JJ back, but we really need a few more guys to step up to be in good shape in the 2-deep. JJ, Callaway, and B. Johnson are solid; Palmer showed some signs of emerging last season, but we need 5th and 6th options at a minimum. Hoping Cedric Tillman, Tyler Byrd, Jordan Murphy, or a few of the others can really step it up. Otherwise, our WR corp is going to be pretty thin. I'm optimistic that we can find some options and happy we got David Johnson as our WR coach, but we'll have to wait and see.

Of course, O-line was a trainwreck last season. Difficult shift philosophy wise, but also not a ton of depth. Our starting lineup sounds reasonable on paper, but just doesn't feel like there's a ton of depth. So hopefully, we see a few guys emerge there, as well.

D-line still a concern, as it's clear the coaches aren't totally sure what the best combo is, or whether all of these guys are a great fit in the 3-4. Hopefully, we get it figured it out. At least we have some talent there.

On the positive side, I'm pretty optimistic about our LBs and DBs. DBs would've probably been our strongest unit this season regardless but with Pruitt around, I'm hoping it becomes even stronger. RBs seem like they could be pretty good, too with Jordan and Chandler in the backfield. If we can solve some of the issues at WR and O-line, we can be much better than expected, but tough to really know how we look until that West Virginia game.
our DBs are probably going to get better, maybe even a lot better. But I am still a long way from saying they are a strength. We have 1 proven guy, Warrior. thats it. the rest is potential or inconsistent.

I’m with ya, but we got Phillips, Tuttle, Johnson, then Gooden, Emerson, Bain, then butler and Bennett can Hopefully contribute as well. That’s 8 without counting freshman Kingston Harris and kurrot garland. John
Mincey is in there too, plus a couple walk ons. Realistically we probably have 8 guys on the d-line. The top half of
That d-line can be pretty good imo though. But we do need some depth there, it’s a good thing that’s what Pruitt is addressing big time on the recruiting trail.

So many unknowns, excited to see the first game. I hope we can find some lightning in a bottle this year. Tennessee is due...

Lol right? Our offense is going to be scary I tell you. Especially against WV because they are going to come out thinking we suck.

Then they are going to get gashed by one of the RBs up the middle and then mess up and creep up on the run and have Wood-Anderson release instead of block for some big yardage on a reception.

Wtf is up with WRU’s hands?! They’ve been trash for as long as I can remember.

I want a Vol. I want one now. After seeing players at practice T-posing, I thought they looked better than my animation avatars. So maybe tonight when players are asleep in the dorm, I'll sneak in and steal a Vol. Darn good T-posers, uh-huh. Thanks, Fingers for your typically quality videos.

Whoever #4 is, kept slowing up when the ball was coming to him.. missed a couple of catches because of it.

I had some reservations after the first couple days about how much I thought Jonathan Kongbo was going to contribute this season, but he’s consistently looked better each practice. I think he’s sneaking his way into a starting role as one of the Vols’ two outside linebackers

At this point I have zero expectation that Kongbo is finally going to have his act together come game day; he epitomizes the Butch Jones era of wasted potential.

I'll believe it when I see it from him as well.

If the coaching staff can finally get something out of him, it will be pretty damn impressive IMO.
