Vols Practice Thread #3

Callaway and Jennings are not average. No way.
I didn't say they were.

As the WR unit "as a whole".
Meaning Callaway and Jennings bring them up! To an average unit. Otherwise they are below average...

Ease up on the back and forth a bit. Three practices, 30 new players, and no pads yet. At this moment in time our guys are all AA's and all our opponents are vastly overrated. Lighten up and enjoy the next three weeks.

I honestly could not make that determination yet.. The WR group has a coach now that worked wonders at Memphis... I mean.. We have no clue their potential.. Can not base anything on last years performance.. This is a clean slate and basically a new team.. Nothing will be the same.. For better or worse.. It's all going to be new and definitely different... And exciting.

No it wasnt really. If you count sacks as passing plays...and you really, really should if you care at all about purity of statistics.... JG had a completion percentage of 52%.

Yes his actual completion percentage was 52 percent . He had a sack rate of 15.8. Which is far as i can tell is the worst ever. For 129 teams in the last 12 years only 4 college qbs had sack rates of above 15. Thats like 900+ game seasons .

Thats 1,548 qb seasons. Only 5 seasonswith sack rates that high.

Jg wae one of those five, and the highest of them all.

Real completion percentage rounds up to 52%, which sucks real bad.
Yes... he took some sacks he shouldnt have, but I have no idea where youre coming up with a “real cometion percentage”. Nobody counts a sack as a pass attempt.

I think he's confused about how the NFL counts passing statistics because in the NFL sack yardage is subtracted from passing yards instead of rushing yards (while in CFB sack yardage is subtracted from rushing yards).

Yeah, I think I put that stat somewhere in one of these threads for both JG and KC..... Can't remember which thread.

I think Alontae Taylor is going to be special. I can already see him at the next level, imo. Just by the way he plays and moves with the ball. I hope he turns out to be a monster.

I would like to see them use him a little on offense as well as defense (like we should have done with Evan Berry).

Yeah, well he is an ATH type. They can place Alontae just about anywhere and he'll probably do well. He said he ultimately wants to be a WR, so I'm sure as his time here goes on we'll see him on the offense more. I think right now it's just to create depth, I suppose. WR and CB are pretty closely related and he was used in high school as such as well. He played both CB and WR. I think they even put him at HB sometimes too. Could be wrong.

I think Evan could have been incorporated better, but then again I wasn't out on the practice field to see what the rest of his game looked like. I got Madden 19 the other day and I saw him listed as 59 overall. Yeesh. Made me think for a minute if he was or wasn't used to his potential. But knowing our old coaching staff, probably wasn't. He was placed on the Browns roster at WR, when he was a DB here. Went undrafted and picked up by them as a free agent. Hopefully he'll be able to prove himself to stick around.

I'm doing a Browns rebuild in the franchise. Going to keep him on roster and develop him. lol

Alvin Kamara was rated at 76 last year, so their rankings aren't exactly perfect, especially when it comes to the guys that aren't as heralded.

I would feel better about your listing Jennings as a starter if we knew more about his knee injury. He's being held out some now, apparently, and one of the observers indicated he was no where near 100 percent in one of Fingers' practice updates. That's concerning with less than a month to go.
