LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. still off to the side doing conditioning during the two periods of practice open today. OL Brandon Kennedy, OL Marcus Tatum and DB Kenneth George were also on the side. Still no J.J. Peterson.

The longer Darrin Kirkland Jr. is limited and the more apparent it becomes that J.J. Peterson will be a non-factor this season, the more Tennessee has to hope that sophomore LB Will Ignont has taken a big step forward under the new staff.

’m not sure when or if Vols Soph WR Josh Palmer will ever put the whole thing together, but if he does, he’s gonna be a really good player. Every physical skill you could want. Big, strong, physical, big catch radius, can move, etc.
-Wes Rucker

In terms of players off to the side and not participating in drills, the Vols’ number grew today. Not only was Darrin Kirkland Jr. over to the side, but so were offensive linemen Brandon Kennedy and Marcus Tatum along with cornerback Kenneth George Jr.

Freshman Brandon Davis continues to work with the safeties during position drills, and Shawn Shamburger was with the safeties as well.

Trey Smith continues to look impressive and physically imposing

Jeremy Pruitt got a little physical with the cornerbacks today. Not in a bad way, mind you; he was demonstrating what he wanted in a drill, lowered his shoulder, and ran into one of the players to show the other corners what he was wanting during the drill. Pruitt was simply leading by example, and he’s not afraid to go through a drill or two with his players.

Freshman Trevon Flowers continues to impress me with his physicality.
-Nathanael Rutherford

Tennessee’s offensive line did all sorts of shuffling Wednesday, with nearly everyone taking reps at multiple spots. Notably, projected starting center Brandon Kennedy was out and working with the S&C staff on the side, so Ryan Johnson took plenty of reps at center. The rest of the unit moved all around, with Trey Smith taking reps at LT and RT, same for Drew Richmond, Jahmir Johnson and Marcus Tatum, who has a big wrap on his left ankle and went to work with the S&C staff as we were leaving the field. K’Rojhn Calbert and Chance Hall both saw work at LT and LG.

As has been the case all week, Kirkland rejoined the practice once the individual periods were over and we were leaving the field.

The quarterbacks and tailbacks spent a period focusing on zone-read handoffs.

Tennessee had two new walk-ons join the team today: A DB (G Johnson) and a DL (M Smith). Both were in shorts and helmets, as they go through the NCAA acclamation period.
-Jesse Simonton

Tennessee's fall-semester classes began on Wednesday, so Haslam Field was a little more populated with a handful of walk-ons practicing in helmets and shorts during their acclimation period with the start of classes allowing the roster to expand to 120.
One of the new faces was not prized linebacker signee JJ Peterson.

The wait goes on there for the Vols and Peterson, and the latest it appears he can enroll in classes and join the Vols is the end of the month.

Tight ends coach Brian Niedermeyer continues to push junior-college transfer Dominick Wood-Anderson noticeably hard. The Vols know Wood-Anderson is a talented player they need to make an impact, and his young position coach isn't letting anything slide.

Shy Tuttle, Kingston Harris and Greg Emerson appeared to be getting some individualized work at nose tackle during defensive line reps on Wednesday.

Consistently the most apparent thing to me from these clips is the aggressiveness being practiced by the OL. If this translates to Saturday’s, we will give ourselves a chance to have some success.

The continuing Daren Kirkland news is troubling to say the least
He is still practicing and who knows what they are doing after the practice is closed. I think in the press conf this evening CJP said everyone was participating that was on the field. According to Josh Ward on the radio anyway
